Hello everyone, I am creating yet another page with so much happiness. I can see that many of you have been posting recently but it did not show up on the page directly. There are so many comments already. Hence I am creating the third page for this blog. I am not an expert in this but if anyone has more experience with blogs, they are most welcome to guide me to make it easier to read comments and posts. ReplyDeleteHello Rahul, I hope you are doing fine. Apologies for my late reply dear but was very busy these 2 last weeks. So for my henna, I don't use gloves and I apply it with bare hands (either MIL will do it or I do it myself). Wearing gloves is practical not to stain the hand but you cannot have the exact feeling of the hair. So I prefer not to use gloves even though many people do use gloves. I also don't cover my head with anything after applying the paste. I know it is recommended to do so, but I prefer letting the henna paste air dry. And just before it becomes completely dry and hard, I will just top up again. That's because we prepare a lot of henna (one full pack) and I top up the remaining until it is all over. ReplyDeleteHello Neha, I think you are a new poster here, so welcome to the blog. There is no best way to oil your hair. But we do have some best practices. What I recommend is first of all to see your schedule. If you can afford some time everyday, if you are ready to be out with oiled hair and so on. If ever this is quite difficult, then make it a must to oil your hair at least 3 times in a week. You can oil your hair on the eve at night and let it soak in overnight. Hence you will need to apply a lot of oil because some will be absorbed by the pillow. Then the next morning you can wash. You can do that twice a week and if possible, you oil your hair on Friday very heavily and let it soak in until Sunday. But it depends on your schedule. As for the oiling, the best way is to comb your hair free of knots. Make a middle parting and pour the oil on your hair and head. Massage it well, tap the head with the palms and keep apply until the whole head is coated with oil (top, sides and back). Then you can start oiling the length making sure to soak it with oil up to the ends. The ends are really important to get a lot of oil to avoid split ends. After oiling, you can comb or finger comb and then tie your hair up in a bun or braid. I hope this helps and if you have more questions, feel free to post again. Yes, I do still remember your post about your first day at your Massi's place. I hope you kept on the good oiling habit dear. I am sure about that. It is nice to see that your mom also oiled her hair till dripping and that she oiled your hair too. I am sure she must have been so happy to do it dear! For me, this is a perfect family where all ladies know the importance of oiling and oil each other's hair. It shows discipline and cultre dear. I am also sure that at times of oiling, with each one oiling each other's hair, it must be so fun and special. Do keep posting dear. Happy oiling!

ReplyDeleteHello Dinesh, thank you for your post. It seems to me that you are suffering from dandruff. This is one of the most common problems. Dandruff is due to the scalp and hair being too dry. I will not recommend using antidandruff shampoo. Rather, whenever you oil your hair (minimum 3 times a week), just add lemon juice to the oil dear. You will see that this will help to eliminate dandruff. Since this is a natural thing, it will take some time but if you follow a strict routine, you will soon have dandruff free hair. Also try not to keep the hair completely oiled. I understand that in today's time it is not good to be seen in public with heavily oiled hair. Hence, after you wash your hair and when it is still damp, you can apply a little oil only just to keep the hair moisturized. I hope this will help and please keep us updated of how it is going dear. ReplyDeleteHello venkat, I am so happy that you took my adviceand you let the maid oil your hair everyday. We guarantee that oiling is so beneficial to the hair. But as I said, it all depends on how much your hair was damaged. It is a natural therapy and it will take a longer time but the results are guaranteed. It's a good idea to oil your hair after work but I agree with adding a little oilin the morning. This will help to keep the hair neat. In the evening, it is fine for heavy oiling. I think oiling everyday will have better results. If you water a plant everyday, it will look better than when you water it every alternate days. My grandma told me that our hair is like a plant. The way we take care of it and love it will determine their beauty. I hope this helps and keep posting.

That's the beauty of all Indian women. I always say that we Indians have the best hair in the world. Unfortunately things are getting different now as we are losign our hair oiling tradition. We have been chatting and I did tell you that we do have so many similiraties. You are doing a good job by keeping your daughters'hair oiled. I know it might be difficult to manage but once they start liking oiling, it will be a real pleasure to sit down all of you and do heavy oilings. Thanks for sharing your routine dear. Oiling your hair heavily before oiling your daughters' hair is a very good practice. As we say, examples are set by elders. Hence you are doing a good job with the support of your mother-in-law. I think that indeed many mothers face this problem. But I think they should first of all adopt a good oiling routine themselves first, before imposing anything to their daughters. I find it unfair too if the mom will keep her hair dry and trendy but forces the child to be in heavily oiled hair only. I agree that rules set should be followed at all cost and sometimes we have no other choice than a slap. But we need to remember, it is better educate them and make them love oiling rather than just slapping and forcing them. Keep posting and sharing.

Hey Priya here! As you know my mother has decided to stay with us and today being a friday it is a heavy oiling day for everyone. Today I didn't have school so after breakfast my mother asked me to sit on the floor and open my hair. I had washed my hair yesterday and today before oiling my hair was completely dry. So i sat on the floor after breakfast my other opened my hair she combed my hair and then she started oiling my hair she oiled my hair till dripping as i washed my hair yesterday and today being friday( In our house on firdays everyone gets a head massage till dripping). We were all ladies in the house after breakfast. My mother oiled my hair and i was oiling my cousin's hair and my maasi was oiling my mother's hair. After oour oiling was done my mother oiled my maasi's hair and after hair oiling we went to the market. Now in the afternoon i just opened my hair and I will do a loose braid. In the night before dinner we will top up our hair with more oil and in the night My mother will make two loose plaits for me.

ReplyDeleteHi namratha didi, first of all no need of an apology :) yes i will write about my maid's henna session soon when she will apply it. By the way if you use no gloves and apply it weekly them i am sure your hands must be orange always ? And secondly if you dont cover your head then there must be smell of henna in your house so what about your family members, i mean does anyone dislike its smell like your MIL, husband,daughters etc? What are their views on henna ?

Hi Rahul, thank you for your post dear. Hoping to read your experience soon dear. I apply henna every alternate weeks dear, not every week. And the henna does stain my hand but it fades out quickly because my hands are in water very often (dishes, clothes, sweeping the floor, taking care of the garden and so on). As for the smell, since I mix the henna with more oil than water, the smell is not that strong. But my MIL applies henna with mostly water and thus the smell is stronger. But I am used to it. Moreover, we do apply henna at around 2 or 3 pm and at that time it is just me and MIL at home. But we do leave the henna up to 6 or 6.30 pm and by that time my kids are back. But the smell is more or less gone. They never complained about the smell though.

ReplyDeleteHow are you? Yes oiling everyday has been beneficial for my hair. Thanks to you and the maid my hair has become much better now. On Friday after I got back from work, she had oiled her hair heavily and tied a tight long ponytail. She told me to sit for oiling, I told her what is hurry oiling can be done later. She jokingly said my hair is thirsty for coconut oil and needs a lot of it. We both laughed and I went and sat before her for heavy hair oiling. She open my bun and combed my hair and parted my hair. She took container of oil and poured good amount on head. Then oil was massaged onto scalp and more oil was applied to other parts of hair. While oiling she complemented my hair has improved a lot over time will improve more with regular oiling. Then she took the end part of hair and holding in my hand poured more oil and rubbed it in hair. Afterwards she combed my hair a lot and tied a tight ponytail just like her. She said hair always feels and looks better with heavy amount of oil. She said she wished my hair could be oiled heavily all day and not only evening. I told her that I will workiing from home for a month, she was so happy to hear it as it meant my hair to be oiled heavily everyday from morning. On the weekend her friend joined us as usual. She had her hair made into two buns on either side. As the maid was combing my hair her friend said today I should comb her hair and she sat it front of me. She gave me a comb asked me to open one bun and comb it. The maid encouraged me and said not to shy. I opened one bun and as her hair is very long out fell on my lap a whole bunch of hair. I picked it and slowly started combing it. Once my oiling was do e the maid took over her friends oiliing while she made me comb her hair. Later after oiling all our hair was tiied in a big oily bun. I told the maid and her friend thatI liked combing their and would like to do more in the future. What do you advise Namratha?. They were happy to hear that and her friend said she will try to come everyday so I can comb and play with her hair. The maid told her that as now I will work from home, she will be oiling my hair heavily from morning. Please comment.

ReplyDeleteI hope oiling sessions are going good. Nice to see third page added in our oiling blog. As you wanted to know about hairstyle, I think I should write down. It was Saturday and the maid told me to wash my hair in the morning. She wanted the hair to be dry as oiling would be done later. I was surprised as weekends no washing of hair. In the afternoon I was sitting with my mother and she came and said to get ready for oiling. Her hair was oiled heavily and my mother and grandmother too. Only I had dry hair. So I sat between her legs as she was sitting on a stool. First she combed my hair with middle parting. Then she bought a bottle of castor oil and mixed it coconut oil. She put more than usual castor oil. She poured the mixture on my head and started tapping it. The castor oil made my hair heavy and sticky. She heavily massaged it in my scalp and was pouring more iin mmy hair. While oiling her two friends came and they had a bag with them. Then the maid asked them if they got the stuff she requested. They said yes. They sat next to me and gave bag to maid. After lot of oiling till dripping, the maid took out six long hair pins and started putting it in my hair. My head felt very tight as she started combing very tight and tied a long tight braid. I asked if she was done. She said no and took more oil and rubbed it on the plait. Then she took a long flower strand and tiied it around my plait. I told her no flowers but she did not listen. After the braid was covered with flowers she asked her friends to take out two big flowers and put it on top of the ears. Her friends did what was asked and all of them were smiling. Then she took more oil and rubbed it at the end of the hair. Then she took a red ribbon and tied it to the end of the braid. I was so embarrassed but was helpless. Then she got up and put my braid in front and showed it to my mother and grandmother. They both started laughing and said she should do this more often. I asked her to take the flowers out now but she made me keep me keep it till night. The castor oil made my hair very shiny and the hairpins kept hair in place. Her friends complimented her on the hairstyle and said shiny hair looks good. I know you will laugh too at this hairstyle. My mother said from now on she will mix castor oil when she oils my hair. Please advise Namratha.

ReplyDeleteI live with my mother and elder sister. We also have live in maid. All three of them do regular oiling and all have long hair. Recently my sister suggested to oil my hair. I refused as I do not like oily hair. My hair has no problems and I shampoo thrice a week. She has convinced my mother about oiling my hair and she wants to oil my hair too. The maid agrees with my sister and said she will oil my hair heavily. Please advise how to convince them as my hair has no problems. Thanks

ReplyDeleteThanks for your tip. I have tried yours given tip of Lemon juice adding to coconut oil. Lemon juice is doing its magic and my dandruff is under control now. I want to ask one more thing my front hair line is going back and back how to stop and grow back the hair line. Which has been suffered from dandruff from years.
At present I wash my hair daily with l'oreal total repair 5 shampoo and apply oil mixture on semi damp hair, mixture of Lemon juice and coconut oil and keep it whole day and night again next morning wash my hair and apply little oil mixture and so on. Is it correct. It is ok to use shampoo daily. any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Hello Pooja, from your first post I guessed you were a man. Even men can post and share their experiences of course. I understand that many people do like till dripping. I believe if you are working, then it is difficult. For me, as a housewife, I can do it whenever I wish because I spend most of my time at home. Thank you for your kind words dear and keep posting. ReplyDeleteYes I do work so can't oil till dripping. But I am going to try doing so on the weekend for sure. I really enjoy getting an oil massage done with lots of oil so will try to oil till dripping. I am sure it will be a good experience. For work I oil my hair very well so that all the hair are coated with oil and when I braid then I get a nice oily shiny braid. I use Dabur Amla hair oil in the mornings since I love the fragrance in my hair all day. I plait my hair in a normal braid mostly, but sometimes when I have time I do French or fishtail braids also. They look really nice with oiled hair. When I do a fishtail braid I wear the braid in front of me as I think it looks very elegant and I get the fragrance from the oil also. At night when I get the time I oil more heavily and that time I use an Ayurvedic neelbringadi oil. It feels really nice to get a massage done with this oil. Over the weekend I am going to try the oiling till dripping with this oil. I like coconut oil as well when I oil heavily but off late I have been using this Ayurvedic oil which is a mix of sesame and coconut so it feels nice and warm in the hair. After describing all this I am really looking forward to my Sunday now :)
DeleteHi Rahul, thanks for the precision. I believe she is wearing gloves only because of you. But henna color will not stain that much if you are using water a lot. I know very few people who actually cover their hair when they henna. Keep posting and we are still waiting for your henna session dear.

If you follow your routine, I am sure the results will even be better. I agree that hair looks the best with a lot of oil and combed neatly. So working from home will mean very heavy oiling from morning till night dear. I am glad to note that her friend came with two buns. Actually it looks beautiful if you have very long hair. Two big buns on each side is really nice. But if you have shorter or thin hair, then the bun will look small and I don't like it this way. Can you give us more details about the oiling please? I believe the best way to learn is through practice. Hence, you have the opportunity to handle long hair and oiling, so go for it and don't forget to share. If possible share more details of how the hair was oiled, how much oil, how it was looking, dripping or not and so on dear. Thank you.

Yes, I believe during weekends it's the opportunity to keep the hair heavily oiled for 2-3 days. Nice to hear that everyone had heavily oiled hair. Did you see their oiling? Please share more details about the oiling process as well Raj. Castor oil is another very good oil, but less easily available than coconut oil. I also tend to do as your maid did... so after oiling and combing, I will just apply the oil on the hair. Whether in bun or braid, I will simply coat it with more oil after combing and styling. About flowers and ribbons, well I actually don't like these. I believe this is a typical Indian or South Indian tradition. In our house (even when I was a kid), it was hair oiling only. No flowers or ribbons. I am so eager to read about your group oiling session dear. Keep posting.
ReplyDeleteHello, thanks for your post but please leave your name next time so that I can reply to you. I think all 3 of them are well aware that oiling is so beneficial for the hair. You seem to be from the younger generation who believes that chemical things are best for hair. It might give you best results in the short term, but in the long term, it does more damage and that will take a long time to restore the hair. You will have no other option than to nourish the hair again by continuous and heavy oiling. Shampooing thrice a week is acceptable only if you are oiling your hair heavily. I have written before that shampoos have a lot of chemicals and should be used moderately. Always apply a heavy oiling before shampooing as otherwise the chemicals will also remove the natural oils produced by the scalp. Hence, the hair becomes dull and dry. And I am quite sure that your elder sis, maid and mom have much better hair than yours. I think as a child and younger sister, it will be better if you listen to your mom and sis. What damage can oiling do? None!! What is the reason you don't like oiling? So that you look trendy and modern? You are living in India, this is part of our tradition and parents do the best for their kids. Whether you like it or not, just listen to what your mom says. We are not Europeans, their hair is different from us. I really cannot help you much on this. I can help you with the oiling, but not against the oiling.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. As Namratha says you should listen to your mom and sister. They are really telling you what's good for your hair in the long run. Hair oiling is part of our Indian tradition and hair looks really nice when it's well oiled and nearly braided. I am sure once you let them start oiling your hair, you will begin to enjoy it and love the way your hair looks when it's nicely combed and braided. If you want a trendier style with oiled hair you can ask your sister to make a French braid for you. French braids look absolutely amazing when your hair is oiled well. I am sure your mom or sister will be glad to make an elegant French braid for you once you let them oil your hair properly. You will make them happy and proud so please do listen to them. It's the best thing for you. This blog is all about sharing the benefits and experiences of oiling hair. We want to convince more people who post here to start enjoying this wonderful tradition, not to help them get away from it. DeleteI am a guy twenty years old. My sister is five years older to me. I think couple of days ago she noticed my hair being dry and suggested I oiil my hair. Soon she convinced my mom and maid. My mom said since we all oil our regualrly I should too. She suggested I get my. Hair oiled every evening and leave it overnight. They only use coconut oil and do not use any perfumed oil. I take good care of my hair and don't want it oiled. Please advise.

Sorry Prashant for mistaking you wrongly as a girl. Whether you are a man or a woman oiling is very good for your hair. I am sure once you let your mother, sister or maid oil your hair at night you will start noticing the benefits very soon. Since they are telling you to oil in the evenings and leave it overnight, you can't complain too much. Let them do it. You will start liking the results on your hair in a few days time. I am sure you will also be posting about your oiling experiences on this blog very soon.

I have a ceremony coming up in a few months for which I am required to grow my hair and have oiling done everyday. My sister being older.is.in charge and has to make sure my hair is oiled everyday. I am not used to oiling I don't want to grow my hair. Please advice.

Hello Dinesh, I am very happy to hear that your dandruff problem is nearly over. What do you mean that your front hair line is going back? Do you mean that you are going bald? EVen though oiling is so beneficial for the hair, it cannot go against nature and genes. Hence if you dad, brothers or uncles have the tendency to go bald, then this is genes. You cannot do anything about this. However, oiling will help to reduce this process for sure. But it will never eliminate it. Shampoos have big brand names and show off such beautiful hairs in their ads. If shampoo really had such an effect on the hair, then all ladies would be having the best hair. Washing your hair daily is the first bad thing that you can do. As I told before, it will strip off the scalp of its natural oil and this natural oil is very important for the hair and scalp. I would also advise you to apply oil only on your damp hair. Do the oil + lemon only at night when you are doing a heavy oiling. I would suggest you to review your routine and try to shampoo twice a week only. I hope this will help out and do keep us updated. Thanks.

I daily wash my hair with shampoo, after washing I apply oil mix with lemon juice when hair is still damp.
At present I am using herbal coconut based hair oil. I take say 50 drops of herbal oil and mix 25 drops of lemon juice mix it well and apply on scalp with the help of cotton, comb the hair that's it.
I keep the oil whole day & even not washing it off at night.
Next day again shampooing & oiling and so on.....
I will take your suggestion of not shampooing daily but twice a week. I will also try to wash the hair with soap instead of using shampoo.
Any other changes please let us know.
Long back I have color my hair thrice and after that all the problem have started. Also I have not oiled my hair from long period of time.
But, I will follow strict schedule their after and will update the change.
Any other suggestion to keep scalp clean bcoz I believe if scalp is clean new hair will get room to grow.
One thing I would like to ask here is their any harm of keeping lemon juice in hair for longer time in our hair as I mix it with the oil and apply. By using this mixture my scalp is feeling free of dandruff and feeling clean as well hair fall is also under control by using it.

Hi namratha didi, my maid applies henna for colouring purpose and i guess the gray hair are not much visible thats why she is not applying mehendi. But i am sure she will apply it in near future because henna is something without which she cant live. By the way i wanted to suggest you that dont apply henna in winters because one of my relative got brain hemorrhage because she applied it in winters and she died unfortunately.

ReplyDeleteHow are you ?. Last week oiling was done everyday from morning. The maid oiled my hair heavily in the morning and advised to wash my hair three days a week. What do you think Namratha.? Then in the afternoon again she would comb my hair a lot and again apply some oil. Now she wants me to comb her hair so every afternoon after she does my hair, she will sit in front of me and open her oiled hair and make me comb it. As her hair is thick and silky it is very nice to comb her hair. On the weekends her friend would come by for oiling and combing. After the maid would oil her hair, she would make me comb her hair. Then all three of us would have tight oily bun. On Saturday I was checking YouTube for new type of bun style, when the maid and her friend came and sat next to me. I told them of new bun style, they would like to select it. They saw a donut bun and said that will look very good with heavy oiled hair. Please.advise Namratha. Having my hair oiled heavily everyday now is a new a experience.

My mother oiled my hair very heavily mixed with castor oil in the morning and then in the evening the maid would again comb my hair and aplply more oil. On Sunday morning my mother again applied more oil. The maid and her friends were going to oiling session. As my hair was already oiled I decided to stay but the maid told my mother and my mother forced me to go with them and said to enjoy the session and just sit there as hair is nicely oiled. S I left with them. When we reached the open field, there were already four women there and all were sitting under a big tree. The maid and her friends joined them and all of them let their hair free and started combing. Soon two more ladies joined them. Afterwards the ladies started oiling each other hair. Oiled was being poured on the head and tapped nicely then strands of hair were oiled in and massaged. Till now I was sitting by myself and watching the oil session. After some time one of the ladies saw me and came over to talk to me. She said why I am not joining the group. I told her my hair is already heavily oiled. She untied my bun and said it needs more oil, and took my hand and walked over to the group. The maid told them who I was and the lady made me sit and she put more oil and masaged my hair. She took her comb and did middle parting all the way. The hair was divided in two parts and other ladies started oiling it. Now the maid told them I make sagar choti for all of them. After we were done oiling till dripping , I made sagar choti for some of them and the maid helped me with it. In the end all of us had heavily oiled sagar chotis. Do you think so much oil in hair is okay Namratha. The maid wants me to go again sometime for killing session. please advice Namratha.

ello Dinesh, thank you for sharing your routine. I am sure if you follow the suggested routine, your hair will improve even more dear. Yes hair coloring with chemical dye is the worst thing for hair. You should avoid it. Oiling is of utmost importance as well. I usually don't recommend applying lemon juice and keep it for the whole day. You can keep it overnight and wash the next day. Hello Rahul, how are you? You should encourage her to apply henna for hair conditioning also and she should follow a good routine as well. I don't think that henna in winter is the cause of hemorrhage or anything else dear. I have been using henna since so long and both in summer and winter. There must surely be some other cause. Try to ask your maid as well and she will tell you the same thing.

Hello Pooja, thanks for your input. I understand that since you work you cannot oil till dripping. But you can surely do that during weekends. Getting a good oil massage is the best thing, specially after a tiring day. I also think that an oiled bun or braid is a professional look dear. French braid and fishtail braids are also nice and good for a change. Keep us posted about your weekend oiling dear. Take care and happy oiling.

I think your sis did a good thing in convincing your mom and maid. I think the routine of oiling overnight is good and coconut oil (natural one) is the best for the hair. I think you should simply listen to what elders say and you won't die from oiling your hair dear. You can oil it overnight and wash it the next day but making sure that whenever you are washing your hair, it must be heavily oiled before. Keep us posted.

Hello Raj, thank you for your nice post. You should have accompanied the maids happily dear as such group oilings are so rare nowadays. I also think you should have involved yourself more and join the group and oiling sessions. But thankfully that lady dragged you in. And I am sure it was a really nice experience too. Personally, I don't know any bad effect of having too much oil on the hair. For me there can never be too much oil. Your hair and scalp will surely absorb the oil dear. And after that incident my maid was fritghtened to apply mehendi. But one day i remember she finally applied it and said "aj mene darte darte laga li mehendi baalon mei".
One thing more, the hate i used to have for mehendi have started turning into a fetish

Hi Rahul, yes I had my henna this Monday. About the brain hemorrhage, as I told you, it is the first time that I am hearing this. I know that even in Europe people use henna in winter and never such an issue was heard. I am sure that the cause was not henna, but it is really sad. Hello All. My Sunday oiling was really enjoyable. I washed my hair in the morning and by noon I was waiting for my oiling till dripping experience. I have hair which is almost till my waist. I poured double the normal quantity of neelbringhadi oil in a bowl and told my maid to give me a long oil massage. She started laughing and asked me if I was sure I want to put that much oil. I said yes please continue she obliged and first combed my hair and parted it and started pouring the oil. The oil felt so good in my scalp. She made sure she poured generous amount of oil on both sides and middle of the scalp. In no time she was tapping my head and I could hear the chap chap sound. Then she pressed her palm and massaged my head properly. The she told me to bend forward and put my hair front and poured oil all over the back of my scalp. It felt amazing as all the oil penetrated deep through the hair into the scalp. I never felt that kind of feeling before because I had not got so much oil put. She massaged the back of scalp properly. I felt oil trickling down my neck but I didn't mind as I was enjoying the massage so much. The brought my hair down and poured lots of oil on both sides of the length and rubbed her palms through the length a few times to make sure the oil was coating every strand properly. Then she dipped the ends of my hair into the bowl and wiped all the remaining oil from the bowl. My hair was now covered in a full bowl of oil for the first time and it felt wonderful. The whole massaging lasted for more than an hour. She then combed my hair for a while and then made such a nice oily and shiny bun which she pinned to keep it in place. The hair looked so neat combed and oiled so heavily. She massaged my neck and shoulders also with oil which had trickled down. Then I told her to take some more oil from the bottle in her palms and coat the bun with more oil to make it shiny again because the oil had already started absorbing. She then told me my hair was looking so nice like this arms that she will do it for me every weekend as she also had a nice time as we talked through the massage and she kept oiling more and more. By Monday morning the oil was absorbed into my hair, but it was still properly oiled. I was combing my hair and she said she will only do it. But she got the oil bottle also with her. This time I started laughing and told her what are you doing as I have to go to work. She promised she will oil just enough to make sure my hair was heavily oiled but not dripping. I smiled and told her to go ahead. She made sure my hair was oily and shiny again and then neatly combed and tightly braided it. I told her it would not be complete now without coating the braid with more oil and we both laughed. She took rubbed her palms with more oil and made sure my braid was coated with oil but just enough so my clothes would not stained. We both admired how nice my hair looked and I thanked her so much for such a relaxing Sunday experience and then left for work. Tell me what you all think. - Pooja

I would have done it whenever they are not here. But haircare of a lady is very important. And to me, it is of utmost importance. Hence, I would definitely not stop using henna and never turn other types of dye but I would simply not do it when they are around.

Oiling is the best thing that can make your hair strong, thick and voluminous – this fact is proved since decades.
We always talk about the advantages of hair oiling. Here are some disadvantages of not oiling your hair regularly:
Restricted Hair Growth
Oil provides the nourishment to the hair roots; it is like the food to your hair, thus lack of oiling restricts the hair growth. Your hair shaft is a strand of protein and it also needs vitamins and nutrients regularly. Oil massage at least 3 -4 times a week is enough to bring back the nourishment that the hair has lost due to activities like chemical coloring, irons, curls, straightener etc.
Scalp Infections
Regular oiling of hair can restrict a number of scalp infections that come from bacteria or fungal attacks. When the pores on the scalp get clogged with dirt and grease, they often get contaminated with bacteria or fungi. These infections give a favorable environment for the growth of troubles like dandruff and lice. Regular oiling can also prevent dryness and irritation in the scalp.
Reduces Protein Content
As said before, hair is a strand of protein and it derives its nourishment from the oil. Lack of oiling leads to brittle and weakened hair. You should opt for nutrient rich oils like coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil, and olive oil to provide the best protein addition to your hair.
Most of the hair oils also have Vitamin E content, which is again a very essential nutrient needed for healthy hair growth. Regular oiling strengthens your hair, reduces hair fall, split ends and can withstand heated treatments like rolling and ironing better. Apart from the above mentioned points, the other disadvantages of not applying regular hair oil is lack of shine and lustre in your hair, dandruff, premature graying and so on. Use oil for hair massaging and do it regularly for best results. Keeping oil overnight is also a good practice as it helps in proper absorption of the oil.

After we got back home from oiling session, my mother and grandmother complemented our oiled till dripping hair. As the maid and me both had sagar dhoti, my mother took some castor oil and coated it over the choti to make it more shiny. Next morning I washed my hair and within an hour of drying my hair the maid called me oiling. She had oiled her hair and it was open. My mother was sitting next to us combing her oiled hair. The maid already had a bowl of warm coconut oil ready. I sat between her legs and she started combing my hair with middle parting. Afterwards she took bowl and poured oil along the middle parting and slowly massaged it. While oiling she told my mother how the ladies were happy to see me and making hairstyle for all of them. They all want me to come for next oiling session. My mother was happy to hear it and encouraged the maid to take me next time. Any comments Namratha. ?. Then the maid took some castor oil and mixed it with coconut oil and started massaging in different parts of hair. During oiling I commented on the group oiling session, and asked the maid and mother about something I noticed. One of the ladies kneeled behind one other lady and took all her long oiled hair and poured in front of the lady sitting. As her hair covered the front ladies face, she massaged her oily hair on the face of the lady sitting in front of her. Both of smiled and said it just a playful act as these women love long oiled hair and appreciate each other's hair. Just then he maid took part of her open oily hair and massaged it on my forehead. Then both of them laughed. After heavily oiling my hair she tied a tight plait and I helped comb her hair and tie it in an oily bun. Later we would do more oiling and styling in the evening. Thank you Namratha. I enjoyed the experience so much, I had to write about it :) Yes definitely. I am going to make very heavy oiling part of my Sunday routine. My maid also oils her hair, but not all the time. She uses my oil only whenever she wants. I am going to offer to oil her hair over the weekend after she does mine. That would be the best way of thanking her. During the week too she's been oiling and helping me braid my hair whenever possible. She's much younger so she encourages me to style my oiled hair and wants to do it for me. Today she gave me a nice massage with my Dabur Amla oil and made such a neat French braid. Everyone at work loved it. I definitely have thanks her this weekend!

ReplyDeleteHow are you ? You suggested to wash my hair twice a week. What two days do you suggest. Heavy oiling is being done everyday by the maid. Now she even advises me how to comb her hair. Sometimes she will sit and take all her had on one side and tell me to comb it in a straight motion. Sometimes she will stand and comb her straight oily hair down. The way she makes me do it feels like combing hair is an art. On Wednesday morning I heard her talking to someone in the kitchen. When I got there I saw an elderly Lady and a young girl in her twenties. The elderly lady had a huge oiled bun while the girl had two.long oiled plaits up to her thighs. The maid told me that it is her mother and sister. Now I know from where she gets her long thick hair. Her mother saw my hair and complemented it. I got back to my work and the maid said she is going to market and oil my hair later. While working her mother came and stood behind me and said she would like to comb my hair and give head massage so I can concentrate better. Before I could say anything she undid my bun and straightened the hair with her fingers. She combed it for some time and then pressed my head for like fifteen mins. Later she said she would oil my hair once I take a break. Just around lunchtime I went to the kitchen and she told.me to sit in front of her . By now the maid had come but her mother oiled my hair. She poured a generous amount of oil and tapped it in my head. Then she made a middle parting and too one side.of hair and told her younger daughter to oil.and comb it and the other part to the maid. After dinner all of were watching TV, when the maid came with a larger bottle of coconut oil and two bowls. The maid had already oiled her hair heavily and had loose bun which she kept.in front. Both my mother and maid untied their hair to get ready for oiling. My sister sat in front of mother and maid behind mother. The maid poured oil in both bowls. She poured oil on my mothers head while mother oiled my sisters hair. While oiling my sister said to me to get oiling done. I said not today. The maid was pouring more oils and taking strands of hair and rubbing oil. My mom was tapping my sister head also pouring more oil. After half an hour the maid started combing my mom hair and put more oil on her loose bun. Around this time my mom asked me to sit next to her, so I did that. The maid was tyng a bun to my mother hair. After some time she poured more oil in a bowl. She coated her bun first then my mother bun with more oil. My mom said come close I have to tell u something. As I bought my head near my mother the maid poured the bowl of oil on my hair and quickly sat behind me and tightly wrapped her legs around me. Then she massaged and taped my head. My mother said oil his hair heavily. The maid said not to worry as she going to take her time oiling my hair. By now both my mother and sister sat on front of me watching my hair being oiled heavily. My mother said now I have to do regular oiling every night and not to cut my hair as she wants me to have long hair. Trust me if you have an open mind you will definitely start loving it and thirsting to oil your hair regularly. You are extremely lucky to have 3 such caring people wanting to oil you hair so that it becomes more healthy over time. And if you want to grow your hair long then I suggest you leave the oil in so that it's a lot more manageable and you get a very professional look once it's combed and styled. Great to hear this Prashant. Group oiling sessions are so much fun. All the members in your family must be so happy that you are part of it now. For a good massage you need to heavily oil your air. Then only the person massaging can do justice so that you enjoy it. And combing oiled hair also is the best thing. It improves blood circulation on your scalp and if your hair is well oiled then there is no breakage also. To be an active part of the group oiling session you must also give the other members oil massages and comb and style their hair for them. I am sure you will enjoy that too and during the time you have quality family time too because everyone is relaxed and happy. I can't answer you on how long you should grow your hair. That is entirely up to you. However, for longer hair oiling properly is a must because only then can you manage it well and keep it healthy and shiny all the way to the tips. Plus if your hair is well oiled you get a professional look when it's combed and neatly braided or made into a nice oily bun. However, to get there you will have to take good care of your hair by oiling as many times as you can in the week and not washing your hair every day. It takes at least a year and a half to two for hair to grow long enough to be able to braid it. Is that how long your mother wants it to grow?

All three of them have nice heavily oiled buns on top of their heads. Their faces and hands were massaged with coconut oil. My mother told me to follow ritual and asked the maid to sit front of me. First she took some oil and coated my hair, then made me bent forward and massaged neck with oil. The maid put a lot of coconut oil on my face and massaged it. While we are sitting all together I ask my mother now long she wants to grow my hair. She said a length so after oiling bun can be tied. The maid said for that regular oiling will have to be done and some days oil will have to remain all day to be replaced by more oil. My sister said she would love to tie a long plait like she does. Both mom and maid laughed. The maid then again combed my hair and kept oiling it. She said starting today regular oiling will be done and washing of hair after every two days. Please advise Pooja. I agree, if your mom wants your hair to grow that long so that you can have nice big oily bun then you will definitely have to let your maid oil your hair regularly and keep it oiled all the time. Yes you should wash your hair twice a week, but please do get it oiled as soon as possible after that. I am sure that with regular heavy oiling your hair will grow long and healthy....and your sister will be able to fulfil her wish too :) I see your offering to comb and oil their hair as a gesture of caring and truly enjoying and being part of the group oiling sessions. While she poured oil in my hair she didn't massaged, she tapped it a lot for the oil to settle I guess. She combed my hair after. The maid had gone to the market so she was not there. My mother oiling method is different so I must confess I missed the way the maid oils my hair. Later when the maid came she was happy, mother had oiled our hair. Hi Prashant...I must confess too that I would love the maids oiling method better. Nothing like a good massage once your hair is heavily oiled :) I think you should take the opportunity and whisper back in her ear that she's already won the bet and you are very much part of their group oiling routine. Your maid would really appreciate the acknowledgment from you and your mother and sister would be very happy. Yes oiled hair can be styled in so many ways. One your hair is longer I am sure your maid and sister will enjoy oiling and styling your hair even more. Your maid is ensuring that your hair is oiled all the time so that it remains healthy and manageable as it grows longer. Washing twice a week is important but get it oiled as soon as its dry or even semi damp. You should tell your maid and sister that you are loving the oiling too and the oiled hair look. So when are you going to start oiling and combing their hair to be fully part of their group? That's the best way to enjoy the full oiling experience. When you do it for others too. Your sister will have to wait a long time to tie your hair into a plait but you could comb and braid her hair right now itself. - Enjoy Pooja

ReplyDeleteHow are you ? As of now since I am working from home, I will make it a point to wash my hair on Wed and Sunday. Next day while oiling I asked the maid about her family oiling routine and she replied her was mother was very disciplined about oiling and she and her sister would bet oiled everyday. She taught both of them to respect and take care of their hair. The mothers massage was very nice and soothing. It helped me work better. Now the maid took the advice,and now when I am working, she will stand behind me and massage my head for like fifteen minutes. Heavy oiling is done everyday and the maid makes sure my hair is oiled heavily early in the morning. On the weekend her friend came as usual and we tried to make a donut bun. All of us had oiled till dripping, and then the maid and me first made the bun on the friend. After wards we helped the maid. They both looked nice with the donut bun on their head. I took some more oil and coated the buns with oil. Then they took over and tried making me one too. I said tie me a normal bun but they said we should have all the same hairstyle. So I also had one and they poured more oil and coated it. While oiling I suggested to the maid to invite her family again o weekend for oiling session. Please advice Namratha.

Hi Namratha, Yes this Sunday was a superb heavy oiling experience. Specially since I stuck to my promise of oiling and massaging my maids hair. This time we did it with warm coconut oil. She oiled my hair first till dripping just like last time. After one hour long massage and combing my hair and making a nice big oily bun she said she was feeling tired. I asked to please go and warm more coconut oil in the same bowl which was empty now as I need it for something else. She was wondering what could it be but did as I told her. Meanwhile I had got up and was sitting on the chair. I asked her to sit down on the floor in front of me and she did that. Then I asked her to turn around....and as she did that I started opening up her long hair which was also in a bun. Then she finally understood what I was doing. She was so embarrassed and started protesting. I said no way today I am going to give you a nice massage. You just said you were so tired. She started laughing as she did not know what else to say. This was so unexpected for her. She has beautiful hair. Long and thick, but her hair were dry that day and seemed like thirsting for oil. I combed her hair first admiring her long silky length. Then I started pouring the warm oil on her head parting different parts of the hair on her scalp so that the warm oil seeped in. When her hair was oiled till dripping I started massaging her hair and scalp with my fingers applying some pressure. She said she had no words to express herself as it brought back childhood memories for her. I oiled above her ears and massaged her ears, massaged her forehead and eyelids too. I made sure that the hair was properly oiled from behind too by asking her to bend forward. Her hair is so nice and thick I had almost finished the bowl which she had warmed up. I told her that for her length I am going to use oil from the bottle now. She started laughing and teased me that her hair was now even more oily than mine. I started pouring oil from the bottle on her length in parts till her length was also completely soaked in oil. Then I took more oil on my palms and rubbed it on the tips of her long hair. Then I started combing her well oiled locks. She I both felt so could. The comb was just gliding through her hair and I must have really got the circulation going underneath her scalp. She said she would like me to braid her hair and so I made a nice tight French braid for her and coated it nicely with more oil. She stood up after more than an hour and she was looking so nice. I told her to look in the mirror and she kept admiring herself. It felt really good Namratha. I said I will oil her hair like this once a week for sure....but only if she oils her own hair regularly too. She said ofcourse she would as not only does she want to earn her once a week oiling from me, she couldn't believe how nice she was looking when her hair was so heavily oiled and braided like this. I am also going to oil my hair more heavily now during the week. Not till dripping as otherwise it does stain my clothes at times and I can't have that at work. But Sapna is there to ensure that my hair are always well oiled and taken care of :)

On Saturday my mother and grandmother had their oiling done early as they had some function to go to. The maid helped them with oiling and styling. After they left the maid opened her hair and told me to comb it. While combing she said we have to do the group oiling again. I was like once was enough for me. She said I have to come as next time I have to oil the other women as they oiled mine and not only style hair. Please advice Namratha. Then she made me sit in front while she combed my hair. Then she said her friends will be here soon so oiling will be done till dripping. Soon after both her friends showed up as always, but this time one more lady came who I recognized from the oiling session. She was happy to see me and said she liked the sagar choti I had tied for her and she wanted to return the favor by oiling my hair and styling it. The maid was happy to hear it and told me that the lady will oil my hair and and style it the way she wants. She has very long thick hair and then I remembered she is the lady who poured her hair across her friends face and massaged it with her hair. So the maid friends untied their hair and started oiling and combing each other while the maid sat behind the lady and oiled her hair, and the lady oiling my hair. She first combed my hair straight and then ran her fingers through my hair. Then she took a bowl of oil and poured right in middle of my head. Soon after she pressed the oil and started massaging. While being massaged the maid told her that I don't want to come for next oiling group session. She smiled and said there is no way I am not coming, everybody liked me and can't wait to oil and play with my hair. She said it is so nice to see a guy comb and style a woman's hair and everybody was talking about it. By now the maid got some castor oil and mixed it with coconut oil and the lady poured more of it in my hair. The lady then asked the maid if she ever put oil on my face and hands. The maid said only on Sundays, then she took some oil and rubbed it on my forehead and back of neck. Soon after I jokingly said I thought your were going to pour your hair over my face and massage it. She started laughing and said I have to come to oiling session to find out. I also changed places with her, as I combed and oiled her hair while the maid did mine. After a lot of oiling and combing we all tied sagar choti to each other. Then we all coated the choti with more oil, so it looked shiny and we'll oiled. The lady was happy with the hairstyle again. She said next weekend another oiling session and all of us are coming. Hi Raj, the group oiling sessions sound like so much fun. You should make it a point to go for every one of them. And since you are the only male member among all the women....you will be the darling of group I am sure. It must be so relaxing to oil and comb each other's hair like that. Sagar chotti or fishtail braid looks great with oiled hair. I am sure all of you must be looking amazing with heavily oiled hair and your glistening sagar chotis. ReplyDeleteI really liked reading your post about oiling your maids hair. I cannot imagine if I had long hair how much oil the maid and my sister would use to style my hair. On Tuesday as I had some work I washed my hair and the maid put some oil and combed my hair. She said heavy oiling will be done once I get back. After I got back I noticed my sister and mother were not at home, the maid said they have gone to a neighbor's house for a function and will be back late. The maid had already oiled her hair heavily and had left it open. She followed me to the room with a bowl of coconut oil. She made me sit at edge of bed while she stood behind me. First she ran her fingers through my hair and slowly massaged it. Then she combed my hair and made a middle parting. Then she poured coconut oil on my hair and started massaging it. As she was massaging her long oily hair were touching my shoulders. I told her that I liked how she massages and oils my hair. Then as you suggested I whispered in her ear, she has won the bet. She was very happy to hear it. She took more oil and massaged the back of the head. She then said that from now on a oiling routine would be done and washing of hair three times a week. She said like my sister she also cannot wait for my hair to grow long so she can use more oil and style my hair differently, so heavy oiling will be done everyday. Then she took some oil and massaged my forehead and combed my hair all the way back. Then she coated my hair with more oil and put a hairband on. As my oiling was done, I told her I have a surprise for her and for that we have to switch position. So I made her sit on the bed and I stood behind her and took a comb and started combing her long oily hair. She was not expecting that and was surprised and later happy. I combed her hair for some time and told her to teach me oiling and combing soi can surprise my family especially my sister like you suggested Pooja. The maid almost hugged me and said surely she would teach me, but first I have to take care of my own hair and listen to her always. I agreed. Please advise Pooja.

Hello Prashant I am so glad you finally told your maid that she won the bet. She must have been so happy hear your acknowledgement of the care she's showing by oiling and massaging your hair. She's absolutely right, you must listen to her and let oil and take care of your hair as much as she wants and you must make time for her to let her do that so your hair grows long and health. I like the way you switched positions to comb her long oily locks. It must have been a great first time experience for you and such a pleasant surprise for her that you were returning her loving care. Please do learn all the techniques of heavy oiling, massaging, combing, bunning and braiding from her. There are just so many styles you can do with long oiled hair. You can really enjoy the full experience with all the 3 women in your family. Thumbs up on your oiled hair look with the hairband. Must be looking very neat I am sure. ReplyDeleteHello Pooja, Thanks to your advice and encouragement it was possible about telling maid about bet. She was very happy about me combing her hair. It was truly a unique experience and I confess I enjoyed it too combing her heavily oiled hair. As now she has taken control of oiling my hair, I let her do oiling whenever and how much she wants. My sister is just happy seeing my hair heavily oiled, she told me she never liked the fact that in a oiling house like ours I never had oil in my hair, and now everybody has heavily oiled hair in the house. Today being Saturday, the maid first heavily oiled my mother and sister's hair and made long thick plaits. She also oiled her hair and tied a loose bun, then I sat between her legs and let the oiling begin. As usual she gave a very nice massage, she ran her fingers through my hair and pressed my head. Then she poured oil in the middle and nicely tapped it. As she was oiling she told me for two days I will not wash my hair and she will comb and oil my hair every few hours. What do you think Pooja ?. Then she said later She would like me to comb her hair once she oils a little more. She then combed my hair all the way back and put hairband. My sister came and sat next to me and coated my hair with more oil. Later in the afternoon, the maid came to my room and asked me to sit at edge of bed. That's great Prashant. You are perfectly on the right track with letting your maid take over oiling your hair. It's the best thing to let her oil and comb your hair ever few hours when you are at home. Your hair will always remain well oiled and neatly combed, plus you get the benefit of a nice relaxing massage from her so many times. Your sister must be feeling so good that you have finally joined in the household tradition of heavy oiling. It's such a great thing and you will enjoy it more and more I am sure. I really like the sound of brother and sister sitting side by side and getting their hair oiled. Picture perfect moment :) I am glad the maid will teach you how to make a braid very soon. There are just so many styles to learn. You are going to have such a nice time oiling, combing and braiding their heavily oiled hair. As your hair also grows out you will be able to able to try many styles too. When your hair is heavily oiled, it looks so neat when it's combed as styled in so many different ways. ReplyDeleteHello Pooja, Today being Sunday and with Diwali coming everyone was up early for oiling and my mother and Meenakshi (my sister) had lot of work to take care of. They were going to be away in the afternoon. Malti ( maid) oiled their hair heavily and tied a big bun. Afterwards and oile her hair heavily and left it open. I was thinking in my mind that very soon I will be oiling her long hair and combing it. Soon she made me sit between her legs and started her relaxing massage. While she was oiling my hair, I told her of of your Diwali surprise for Meenakshi. She was very happy to hear it., and encouraged me. She said as the family is going to be away in the afternoon, she will ask her friend to come and she will teach me to braid. After heavily oiling my hair, and combed my hair with a middle parting. I asked her why, she said once I have long hair, it will have middle parting and everyone in the house has middle parting. She also oiled my ears and and massaged my face with oil. After some hours and came to my room with oil and again oiled it more and combed it tightly and put hairband. Later in the afternoon, her friend came and she had a very long loose braid which was looked lightly. Malti told her friend about the plan and she was ready to help me learn and plus she was also looking forward to Malti oiling her hair. Malti untied her friends hair and massaged her hair first and heavily oiled her hair. Once enough oiling was done, Malti made me sit behind her friend and combed her hair. She first guided me now to comb oiled bair. After a bit we all stood up and I combed long hair while standing. Then Malti took the hair and started criss crossing with three layers. Then she asked me to do the same. I held the hair and Malti stood behind me and held my hands and guided me. Very soon I tied my first long oiled braid. We did practice for some time first. Then Malti was going to oil my hair when her friend said she would like to oil my hair. While oiling my hair her friend said with Malti taking care of my hair, I will have long and strong hair and she will also join our oiling session. Later in the evening, with the family back, Malti was combing Meenakshi hair and oiling it too, she told Meenaksi, this Diwali it will be special for her. Please comment Pooja.

Great to know the names of your family members Prashant. Malti is continuing to do a great job on your hair oiling routine. As I told you earlier, with oiled hair you can do so many nice styles. I usually comb my hair back and pin the sides neatly when I make a simple braid and for my fishtail braid I prefer to do a middle parting and wear my braid in front of me. I love this style because I get the fragrance from my heavily oiled braid all day because it's right in front of me. I get a lot of compliments too for this style from people at work. My Sapna makes the best French braid braiding my hair tightly from somewhere on the middle of my head and working her way down. The braid comes out thicker, but shorter than a simple or fishtail braid. Then there are so many bun styles as well. With and without accessories like scrunchies to hold the bun in place or pins or even a toothed comb through the middle of a heavily oiled shiny bun. It looks so neat and professional with the hair perfectly in place when it's oiled heavily and combed well. Thanks to reading this blog I now always coat my braids and buns with a generous coating of oil which Sapna applies for me so my hair looks shiny and sweet smelling throughout the day. I am waiting to hear about your Diwali surprise for Meenakshi now that you know how to do the simple braid thanks to a very good tutorial by Malti's friend.

ReplyDeleteWish you both a Happy Diwali, Sunday was so busy helping my mother with work due to Diwali. By the time I finished it was late afternoon. The maid had requested leave to go for oiling session which my mother had allowed already. As I was relaxing my mother told me since my hair has not been oiled all day,I should go for the oiling session where the maid is and get my hair oiled. Due to festive season oiling was not done regularly. I was tired and told my mother she could oil my hair if she wants. My mother then said she wants me to go for oiling session as she promised the maid I would be there and I had to accept it. My grandmother also said go to group oiling, and get hair oiled heavily as it is festival time. Soon I walked over and as I came near I saw all the ladies had already had hair oiled heavily and were combing each other's hair. I thought all I might have to do is style hair and go back home and get my hair oiled by my maid later. Soon the the lady who came to my house earlier saw me and called me over. By now even the maid who was enjoying her hair being oiled me saw me too. The lady looked at me and told everybody we have somebody without heavily oiled hair in our group. She then pulled me down and made me sit between her. Another lady came over with a bowl of coconut oil. Then my maid told to add some castor oil to the coconut oil and apply it to my hair. The lady already had untied my bun and combing my hair while the other lady mixed castor oil. Then she sat in front of me and poured the mixture only head. The lady nicely scrubbed the oil in my hair. Soon all the ladies took turns in oiling my hair. My hair was heavily oiled and was being combed by two ladies. Soon the lady who came to my house sat behind me and said if I am ready for my Diwali treat. Then she took her long oily hair and made it drop in front of my face. My face was totally covered with her hair and some other lady sat in front and tapped the hair on my face. After some time my face was fully massaged with oil. It was a very different experience and my maid said I hope you enjoyed it as this is only the beginning. Then we all tied thick long plaits and put flowers in our hair. The ladies ties some flowers to my hair too as they said it was festive season. Soon hair was coated with more oil, and all of us left together. When I reached home the maid sat with my mother and told her everything. My mother was very happy to hear about my hair been oiled heavily and laughed about the hair on my face incident. She said these ladies are playful and love oiling their hair and I should be a part of it. Then my mother made me sit in front of her and combed my hair again while the maid poured more oil and coated it. Please advise Namratha and Pooja. ReplyDeleteHappy heavily oiled Diwali. On Diwali everybody was up very early as it was going to be a busy day. My mother and Malti first massaged our face and hands with coconut oil, and then both of us were going to wash our heavily oiled hair for fresh oiling. My mother was already getting her hair oiled heavily and I could see fresh flowers, so all the ladies were going to have flowers in the hair. Meenakshi and I both got ready soon after and Malti told Meenakshi to sit first. My mother and Malti had prepared a special oil consisting of coconut oil, castor oil, and jasmine oil. It looked really heavy liquid. Malti opened Meenakshi loose bun and combed her long hair. Then she took bowl of oil and poured it in middle of head. While oil was poured Malti was nicely tapping it with one hand. Then she ran her fingers and massaged her head. More oiled was poured and Malti took Meenakshi hair and put it in front of her and combed it over Meenakshi head. All her hair was in front. Then Malti took more oil and massaged it to other parts of hair. She took the end of the hair and folded it and poured more oil. The hair looked shiny and sticky. After doing long strokes of combing Malti signalled to me to come and sit behind Meenakshi. Quietly I sat down behind her and started combing her hair. It was so sticky. As she has hip length hair I had to hold her hair with one hand while combing. Then Malti came and sat behind me and whispered to start making braid. I took hair and made three parts and started over lapping it from the neck below. Casually Meenakshi turned around and almost screamed. She saw I was braiding her hair. After some time she was so happy. I braided her hair all the way to the end which I left a bit open. I dipped the end in the bowl of oil and massaged it, then Malti took over and coated Meenakshi hair with oil, Now mother would take over of putting flowers in the hair, as she and Malti had already oiled and put flowers in their hair. My mother put some flowers on top of head and wrapped a string of flowers around her braid. Everybody looked so nice with heavily oiled hair and flowers. Even the hair smelled good due to Jasmine. My mother and Meenakshi said it was as great surprise and best Diwali gift ever. I told them it was thanks to Malti who taught me to braid with her friend. Meenakshi then said Malti please keep oiling my hair more as next Diwali she want to oil my hair and tie a braid and add flowers. Malti promised her that. Now Malti took over my oiling and started with her massage. The mix of oil was really thick as my head felt heavy. Malti was really pouring a lot and massaging it to my scalp. Then she pulled my hair back tight and instead of hair band she used pins to keep my hair in place. Malti said more oiling would be done later in the evening or night. Meenakshi said my nice heavily oiled hair is missing so e flowers. She took a flower and put one on top of my ear. This was my first Diwali with heavily oiled hair, and everybody was also heavily oiled and hair nicely decorated. Thanks Pooja for your advice and encouragement. I am so glad you love having oil in your hair now. By next Diwali your sister will be able to braid your hair as Malti's care will ensure it grows long and strong. ReplyDeleteI just want to say thanks a lot. Prashant told me about this blog and I was happy to read that you encouraged him about oiling. It was about time somebody put some sense in him. We all do heavy oiling in our house and somehow it doesn't feel right with one person with no oiling. Don't you agree Pooja ? Malti now makes sure he has regular oiling, and she is very strict about it. I liked all the hairstyle you mentioned in your previous post. I will do a nice heavily oiled french braid like you mentioned this weekend. It was a very nice surprise with Prashant combing and braiding my hair. Next step for him would be oiling. I have hip length hair and Malti has knee length hair. Please do suggest any more hair styles we could try. I liked your post about oiling Sapna hair, it was so well written. I am sure that by next Diwali, Prashant will have long straight hair which will be heavily oiled and tied in a braid. Please do share your thoughts. Thanls

Great to meet you Meenakshi. Absolutely agreed....it was time that someone could let Prashant know that heavy hair oiling was the best thing for him. I can imagine the good times you all must be having now that everyone in the household is taking part in these oiling sessions. So relaxing and so much fun. I think hip length is great to have and I am sure your braids and buns must be looking fabulous with the regular heavy oiling that you are doing. Personally I would not like to have hair longer than hip length as the braid tends to thin out towards the bottom. I prefer having hair upto the waist or hip so that my braid looks shiny and thick all the way on its length. Otherwise for hair longer than that only buns would look nice. Besides the styles I already described I would suggest a tucked in French braid, a braided bun, braiding at the top followed by a bun or even leaving your oily, shiny hair half open with a thin braid down the centre. There is no end to the styles you can do when your hair is oiled properly and neatly combed. All the styles turn out great and the hair smells so good too. I can understand how much you must be waiting for Prashant's hair to grow too. Brother and sister can both have long, oily, thick and shiny braids. Malti seems to be completely on the right track in taking care of Prashant's hair oiling. Let me know how your French braid turned out. I bet it must have looked amazing.

ReplyDeleteAfter three days of heavily oiled hair, I got to wash my hair today. Within fifteen minutes Malti was ready to oil my hair. She didnt want my hair to be dry for too long. I got a nice massage followed by heavy oiling. She would lift the hair with a large comb and she would rub oil in the hair. After combing my hair all the way back, she coated it with more oil. She said she would oil more later and comb hair. On Sunday Meenakshi had a nice heavily!y oiled french braid. I am sure she will post sharing her details. Later in the afternoon the maid made me comb her oiled hair. She stood in front of mirror and untied her oily bun. I combed her hair with long strokes and sat on my knees to comb the end as she has knee length hair. I helped her tie a loose braid and then she made me sit in front of her and oiled !my hair again. Later Meenakshi got her hair oiled heavily and I helped tie a loose braid. Thanks for the scrunchy info. Meenakshi actually has some. I was wondering to gift Malti something as she is taking good personal care of my hair. Do you have any advice Pooja.

On Sunday as you suggested I had a very oily shiny french braid. Malti started tying it from middle of my head. First hair was heavily oiled and combed tightly. She tied a very tight french braid and then coated it with jasmine oil. You are so right about Prashant and me looking nice with heavily oiled hair. It is so relaxing to have all family members oiling together and styling hair. With Malti disciplined oiling Prashant won't have to wait a long time for long hair. Hopefully soon he can have a oiled braid like rest of us. I jokingly told him I am going to get hair extensions done on his hair so we can oil it and tie a long braid. What do you think Pooja. ?

Thanks for sharing Meenakshi. I think a donut bun is great for Malti with the length she has. A heavily oiled donut bun will look neat and professional as well. Maybe you can braid the end and circle the donut bun with a nice oily braid. That will be a good touch. You can then put fancy bobby pins to hold the front of her neatly combed hair in place. I am sure you will do a great job and she will love the style. Hair extensions for Prashant....that sounds like fun :) Why not...if he wants to see how he would look in a neatly oiled braid then by all means please do try it out. I am sure you all will have a great time!! So I will wait to hear from you about the fun you had with Malti's surprise and getting Prashant his own neat and heavily oiled braid this year itself!!

DeleteThanks for the advice. Prashant and me went to the market today and bought some nice hair accessories. I picked up a big bottle of coconut oil with a medium size bottle of jasmine oil. For hair accessories, we picked up on your advice of course :) bobby pins, different type of hair grip/ claw clips, hair stick, some patterned scrunchies, and a nice bow clip which I think would look good on a donut bun. What do you think Pooja ? I like your idea of the braid around the donut bun, I was thinking of wrapping the braid with some flowers and a bow clip beneath the bun. Please suggest. I told Prashant I will make a nice gift bag and wrap gifts and then he can gift it to her. Today later while being oiled by Malti, I told her about hair extensions for Prashant, she was very happy to hear it and said she doesn't have to wait a year to oil his long braid and she can oil it heavily and decorate it. My mother suggested to go to her friends shop that sells wigs and extensions. She said her friend would even come to the house and put it on. Malti said she would like to come too, as she would like to see various length as she wants long straight black hair. Pooja, please try to convince Prashant as he is a bit shy about it and I do need your support:). We plan to gift Malti her presents on Friday and do the hair extensions too as that way he can have it on the whole weekend. Malti is surely going to be surprised, with Prashant oiling and making a donut bun. We need to practice first so plan to go to a friends house as Malti might find out. Please reply soon.

I think the braid around the donut bun with heavily oiled hair would look very elegant just as is, without the flowers or the bow clip. Take a look at this picture http://nyponytail.com/chade-new-born-free-2xl-donut-bun.html The bow clip looks great if your not going to do the braid around the donut bun, but if you are then I would suggest you should let the braid itself stand out. A combo of coconut and jasmine oil sounds heavenly. When you go to your friends house make Prashant practice on you only. That way you get a nice massage from him with the sweet smelling coconut and jasmine combo. I really don't think I need to convince him about the hair extension. Once he oils, combs and styles your hair at your friends house, he will definitely look forward to having his own hair oiled and styled like that too. I am sure the weekend will be super fun. Let me know how it goes with the practice session :)

The benefits to your hair are obvious, but the real enjoyment comes over the loving care and bonding that you have with each other during the oil massages, combing and styling of oiled hair. It just becomes so much a part of your relaxation routine, you keep looking forward for the next session :) I will wait to hear from Meenakshi about how her oiling and French braid turned out. As for Malti's gift, I believe in very personal gifts. I suggest you take her shopping. Get her favourite hair oil for her and buy her a nice set of combs and dressy hair accessories to hold her buns and braids together. You get so many nice pins, clips, scrunchies, hair sticks etc. They add that fancy touch once your hair is neatly combed and styled after oiling heavily. She would surely appreciate that. Then comes the best and most personal part. Tell her that you will do a complete oiling, combing and styling routine for her and then dress her hair up with the accessories you bought together. ReplyDeleteI can see Meenakshi is keeping you updated. I am very sure Malti would love her gift as we spent a lot of time selecting all the hair accessories. Oiling Meenakshi hair was quite an experience. I must admit I was a bit nervous at first then after I got comfortable. It truly is an art oiling and styling hair. The donut bun as you suggested from the photo looks so nice. I didn't do Meenakshi style the same way but was kind of c!ose. She was very happy with it and her friend complimented too. We will practice for one more day and on Friday oil and style Malti hair. I am not too sure about hair extension right now as I was okay with growing my hair long naturally. Malti and Meenakshi seem very excited about it. I am not sure if Malti would decorate my hair too if I got extensions. Its tough getting my way with three women around. Please advise Pooja. Today after we got back from Shalini house, Malti again made me sit down for oiling. As usual she combed my hair all the way back, poured oil and massaged it. While oiling she did mention how decoration would look in my long hair. She has no idea of her surprise. I was thinking a wooden hair stick would look very nice in her big oiling bun as she can untangle her bun once she takes out stick. I really like that with big oily buns. I should practice making buns more. Next time hope to update you before Meenakshi does:)

Yes, oiling and styling hair is truly an art and also such an enjoyable and relaxing time with family and friends. Please continue to do so and make the time for it. Seems like Shalini will also join your group oiling sessions too. With the regular oiling and massaging that your getting from Malti and others your hair will definitely grow out healthy and strong naturally, no question about that. The hair extension is just for fun and I am sure it will be a very enjoyable experience for you. I am sure all the women in your life will really give you a great time with the many styles and decorations over the weekend. Go for it! I like the sound of the wooden stick for Malti's hair. I agree, it is an amazing sight to see long, healthy and oily hair cascading down like a waterfall when a hair stick is removed from the bun.

ReplyDeleteI really liked the photo you mentioned in your post. I agree with braided donut bun no decoration is required. I think we will oil and style Malti hair twice once with and once without decoration. Today morning after Malti oiled Prashant hair heavily and mother oiled my hair lightly as we were going to my friend house. All three of us went to my mother friends store. She suggested clip hair extension for Prashant and she will personally come and do it and show it to us also. Malti selected hip length extension while I like the waist length. Malti said the longer it is more oil will be used and more decoration. Mother suggested we buy both and decide later which one to use. What do you think Pooja. ?. Afterwards we reached home and told Prashant to get ready. Once we reached my friends house Shalini. Prashant untied my hair and combed it. I told Shalini that only Prashant will oil and style my hair as he needs practice, just as you suggested :). Prashant first combed my hair nicely and he did a good job of it.. Then Shalini poured oil in a bowl and Prashant poured some on my head and massaged it slowly. He ran his fingers into my scalp which was nice. Later he combed my hair and spread oil to different parts of hair. He would rub different parts of hair and massage oil into it. Later he combed my hair tightly and tied a rubber band. Then took a donut band and pushed it through ponytail. Then Shalini helped him with adjusting the hair around the donut bun. Once the hair was nearly adjusted he tied a braid and wrapped it around the bun. Shalini helped with the pins. Then he took some bobby pins and put it it front of my hair. I must say he did a nice job styling and oiling, even Shalini was impressed and said Prashant should oil her hair too. Afterwards I took the bun off as I didn't want Malti to see it so Prashant ties me a loose oily braid. On I forgot to mention he did coat my bun with jasmine oil and it smelled so nice with coconut oil. Later I told Shalini we will come one more day to practice. When we reached home Malti had just finished oiling and combing mothers hair. She asked Prashant to sit in front for more oiling, she was wondering where I got my hair oiled. She told Prashant soon he will have long hair and she will oil it very heavily and decorate it. I hoped you enjoyed the practice. Please advise and make suggestions where required, Pooja

Hi Meenakshi. I really enjoyed reading your post. You described Prashant doing your donut bun so well. I could picture it so well. You must be having amazing hair dear. Seems like Prashant did a really professional job oiling and styling your hair. Not bad at all for someone who didn't want anything to do with hair oiling a few weeks ago :) I am so glad we all made him realise how much he was missing out on and I am sure he's going to always want his hair heavily oiled now and take part in all the enjoyment of the oiling sessions at home and your friends places. I would also like to welcome Shalini to our forum and I think it would be great to include her also in your group oiling sessions. Clipped hair extensions sounds like the right temporary type for Prashant. I have encouraged him as well to try it out and enjoy the fun over the weekend. He's definitely going to want his hair long permanently once you go through this weekend of oiling and styling each other's hair. I so much wish I was part of it tooooo. I would recommend the waist length extension. That's long enough to try many styles and you can make Prashant also practice braiding and styling his own hair. Longer than that would be difficult for him to manage I think. I personally like decoration with hair accessories more than flowers. Fancy bobby pins to pin the front of the hair neatly once it's combed and braided. Nice rubber bands to hold the ends of our thick oily braids. And the hair stick in the heavily oiled buns. I do put flowers very rarely for functions. But usually I just use my accessories for styling and I love the fragrance from my oil itself. Dabur Amla, coconut, neelbringhadi or jasmine. Sometimes I use almond oil as well. But it has no fragrance so I use it at night usually. Day time I love a sweet smelling oil in my hair for work and outings. Sapna has been doing a great job in heavily oiling and styling my hair for work. This week she's done a normal braid, a French braid, a lovely braided bun and today was a fishtail braid which I wore in front. I am sticking to my promise of oiling her heavily on Sunday's. But we also pull our leg about who's more heavily oiled and eventually I also give her a nice massage during the week as well. She's a darling and she's just a little more than half my age so I treat her just like my daughter.

ReplyDeleteI am so happy to hear that you are still taking care of Sapna hair oiling as you promised. Today. we all washed our hair, and mother told Malti to oil her hair and mine. She said as Prashant was getting hair extension to oil his hair later. Once our heavy oiling was done, I told Malti to wait for a bit before she oiled her own hair. Prashant told both of us to come to his room. He made Malti sit on the bed and gifted her present. She was so surprised to see her gifts. Prashant then said that today and over weekend we both will oil and style her hair. Then he made her turn around and sit on edge of bed and untied her hair. He took a brush and combed her hair very nicely. He combed her hair in long strokes and made middle parting on top of head. After sufficient combing he told me to warm coconut oil and bring it in a bowl. I warmed the oil and bought it to him. He took oil and poured in middle of Malti head. He spread it with his fingers and massaged it in her scalp. Malti looked like she was enjoying the massage, After pouring more oil and massaging he divided her hair in two parts and told me to oil one side and he will oil one side. We both took oil and started spreading it on the hair. Prashant would take oil and rub it in the hair. He dipped the end of the hair in the bowl and stroked it, I did the same. Once Malti oiling was done he combed her hair very tightly. Her hair looked well oiled and shiny. Then with my help he tied a donut bun just as I had exactly described before. He did more of the work. I must say a braided donut bun looked so beautiful on Malti. Even mother was surprised when she saw it. Prashant took her to the mirror and showed her the new style. She was so happy, she hugged both of us. Prashant said to enjoy her new style and on weekend he would!d decorate her hair with accessories. Malti told Prashant now she can't wait to oil his soon long hair and style it. Please advice Pooja.

ReplyDeleteSorry was not able to write. As I mentioned earlier after Malti hair was done. My mother friend came and she would use the clip on extension on Prashant. She told us to stand beside her so she can show us how to use clip on extension. I suggested the waist length extension and she put it on. Prashant looked so different with straight long hair. Then the lady combed his hair and said he is all ready for oiling. Malti was happy to hear it as she was already ready with a big bowl of coconut oil mixed with castor oil, and a large comb. She made Prashant sit between her legs while she sat on a high stool. She combed his long hair first and then poured the oil in the middle of the head. Oil trickled on the side of the head and forehead, which was nicely massaged. Malti then massaged the head while dipping her finger in bowl. Then she poured oil on rest of the hair and started scrubbing it. She would massage parts of hair and comb it. After she combed his long oily hair she got a can of coconut oil and opened it, Prashant said enough oiling is done and no more. Malti oiling can never be enough and poured more oil. After more oiling and combing she tied a long tight braid. In the front she took some large Bobby pins and put it to make the hair more place. The end of the hair was nicely combed and a coloured band was used. Then she made Prashant put the braid in front of him and showed him in the mirror. The braid looked so shiny and we'll oiled. She would pull the braid everytime he put it back and she wants it in the front. Next day we all decorated out hair with accessories. Malti wants to use the longer clip on extension next weekend so she can make a big oily bun on Prashant with a wooden stick. P!ease comment Pooja and feel free to make suggestions. I told Shalini about this blog.

ReplyDeleteI hope you are well. Malti really enjoyed oiling my long hair. She made sure each part of my hair was heavily oiled and tightly combed. What Meenakshi forgot to mention is after Malti tied me a tight braid, Malti coated my long braid with jasmine oil and told me to keep the braid in front so I can enjoy the nice smell of jasmine and coconut oil. She would pull my braid if she saw me putting it back. What do you think Pooja. ? Next day I again oiled her hair and made a donut bun without braid and Meenakshi and me decorated her donut bun with bow clip and colored Bobby pins. Afterwards she again oiled my hair heavily and decorated my hair too with colored grip clip and Bobby pins. It really gets used too to having so much oil in the hair. Even when I think enough oiling has been done,Malti pours more oil. On the weekdays I take the extension off and I told Malti and Meenakshi that only weekend oiling with extension. Malti wants to do a heavy oily bun with stick for all of us. Having long hair seems so different but the oiling is really great. Malti and Meenakshi like pulling my braid and smelling it as they are so happy with me having a long braid. My mother is happy to see me in long oiled braid. Please reply soon, Pooja.

It's been a while, but I can imagine, you must be so busy enjoying the oiling time :) Having long hair does take some time to get used to, but with Malti and Meenakshi taking so much care during the oiling I am sure you will always want to have long and properly oiled hair. I like the sound of the playfulness around Prashant's braid. It be must looking really nice and fragrant with the jasmine oil. Yes please do try out the buns with the stick. Every style looks so good with heavily oiled hair. Fishtail braids look great too, but they take more time to make. Malti is right Prashant. Oiling can never be enough :)

ReplyDeleteThanks for a nice reply. Today morning Malti attached the clip on extension (longer ones), as she was going to do oily bun. She combed my long hair with middle parting. After combing she oiled it heavily mixed with coconut and castor oil. I even got a nice heavenly massage from her as she massaged my forehead and ears. She tied a loose braid and did the same with Meenakshi. Malti said after lunch we will all do oily buns. Meenakshi later added that Shalini will be joining us in the afternoon for
oiling. Mother and Malti are leaving for a relative house for a few days so Malti is busy. Meenakshi also undid my hair and applied more oil and combed it. She left my hair open and put 2 Bobby pins on either side above the ear. After lunch Shalini had joined us and she had a loose oiled braid. Her hair is as long as Meenakshi. She was surprised to see my long open hair but really loved it and said its about time I had long oiled hair. Malti first made Meenakshi sit and oiled her hair heavily and tied a big oily bun with stick. Then she made Shalini sit and oiled her hair heavily and same type of bun was made. While she was doing Shalini bun, Malti made me sit in her lap as we were all sitting on the floor. She took my hands and made me tie a bun. She was enjoying smelling my open hair as I was sitting in her lap. Then she made me it being her and oil her long hair. Meenakshi helped too. Once Malti hair was tied in a oily bun. All of them turned their attention to me. Malti split my hair in three parts and all of them oiled my hair together. After a lot of oiling and combing Malti tied a big oily bun with a stick. My mother liked the sight of it. Malti made us stand in a line and pull the sticks so all our hair would fall together. Again she would tie all our hair with stick in it. Then we all sat together with oiled buns. Malti told my mother that since she and Meenakshi are going away for a few days, can her friend come and stay over, same friend who helped me with braids. My mother readily agreed as she said oiling would be more fun I groups. Malti now wants to keep the extension on for weekdays too as she has plans for heavily oiling and styling with her friend who aso has knee lenght hair like Malti. Please advise Pooja ? My maid oils my hair and she too has hair the same length as mine. We always oill our on the weekend. We always use coconut oil. Meenakshi like to oil her hair daily and now it seems Prashant is doing the same. It was nice to see Prashant with long hair and getting oiled heavily. Meenakshi asked me to join her again next weekend for oiling session and bring my maid too. I usually tie my hair in a loose braid.

Hi Shalini and Prashant. Firstly Shalini welcome to our heavy oiling blog. I hope that you will be a regular contributor here and share your oiling experiences. Prashant your description of the heavy oiling followed by buns with sticks was absolutely fabulous. I can just picture you, Meenakshi and Shalini standing in a line and the sticks being removed from your large oily buns. Your heavily oiled tresses must have come cascading down in shiny waterfalls. What an amazing sight. I wish I was there to see it. I can understand why you are wanting to have the extension during weekdays as well. I was so sure you would love the heavily oiled long hair as it's so much nicer and more relaxing to oil and comb long waist length hair. No wonder you described the massage as heavenly. It's because Malti could put so much more oil and work her magic in your long hair. Not to mention the wonderful styles and decorative accessories you can use on your long and neatly groomed super oiled hair. You wouldn't like having your hair any shorter or less oiled now :) Please try having your hair braided into a nice tight French braid once it's heavily oiled next time. I can assure you that you will love how you look in this style. The hair looks so neatly groomed in this style when your hair is heavily oiled. I am so glad that Malti's friend is coming to stay while Meenakshi and mother are away so that your group oiling sessions continue and you get all the enjoyment and relaxation while your hair gets all the benefits. Shalini I urge you to join the group oiling sessions with Prashant. I can assure you that you will have a great time. Please try and oil your long hair as often as possible my dear. From what I can picture, you too have really nice long waist length hair and it needs the nourishment a lot more than weekends to remain long, healthy and lustrous. Only heavy oiling as often as possible will give you the best results and the younger you start this routine, the longer your hair will remain looking gorgeous as you continue to age. So I urge you to come with your maid as often as you can and get your hair oiled with Prashant in these wonderful group oiling sessions. ReplyDeleteI don't know if I want extension all week as if I leave the house I don't want to have long braid. I did it for Meenakshi and Malti prefers the longer one so she can have oil my hair more. Also she keeps pulling my braid for fun so I keep it in front as she likes it that way. On Monday I dropped my mother and Meenakshi off at the station. Roshni (Malti friend) came in the morning too. My mother told both of them to make sure proper oiling is done and Meenakshi added to nicely decorate my hair with pins and accessories. I told Malti that I will be washing my hair after I get back so she can oil it later. After I got back I saw that both of them had oiled their heavily and leaving their hair open and having a colorful elastic band in the middle of the hair. As I was getting ready to wash my hair Roshni asked Malti if ever she has applied ghee to my hair before washing as it is a good conditioner for hair. Malti said no but she can put some if she wants. I told Malti no ghee but she said just a little bit p!us not nice to say no to Roshni. By now Roshni came with a cup of ghee and made me sit on bed facing her and she stood in front of me and coated my head with ghee. Soon my hair was mixed with coconut oil and ghee. What do you think Pooja ?/Then I was told to wait for half an hour and wash my hair. After I washed my hair Malti was waiting for me with coconut oil can in her hand. I dried my hair and sat on bed. Malti first combed my hair and then she went and got the longer hair extension. I told Malti no extension but she said Rosh I want to see me in long hair so just let her do it. By now Roshni joined us and helped Malti with extension. Roshni complimented me with long hair and said heavily oiled long hair look good on me. They both stood behind me and took made to parts of my hair and combed it. After combing both of them poured oil and started massaging my head. Then they parted my hair and both oiled their parts together. They both oiled my hair a lot and then tied a long double braid. Even though I protested Malti said to enjoy the styling. The double braid was very tight and shiny. Then they both coated it with jasmine oil. Roshni put her braid in the back while Malti made me put here in front. They both took long Bobby pins and inserted them above my ear and in front. Roshni said since she is staying for week, they both are going to do new hairstyle and decorations. Roshni said on Wednesday and is going to put flowers. I protested but they both laughed. Pooja how do I convince Malti and Roshni to not put flowers in my hair.
In the afternoon Shalini called and said she would like to come over for oiling with her maid on Wednesday. Malti was happy to hear it and said all of us will have flowers in our hair. Then both of them made me comb their long hair and apply oil too. Then both had oily buns.They both played with my double braid and kept pulling it. Later they untied my hair and oiled it again together and made double buns, one on each side. Please advise Pooja.

Hi Prashant, great to hear that your oiling routine is going really well with Malti and Roshni both taking such good care of you. However, I would like to add that you should be very comfortable and enjoy what you are doing. That's the most important thing. Yes oiling is definitely very beneficial for long, healthy and strong hair and I personally think that heavily oiled and neatly groomed hair looks really amazing. However, you being male, I can understand some discomfort about going out with a long braid. If you are uncomfortable with the idea then it's fine to say no. These are all your family members and I am sure they will understand. You are making them happy by sporting long hair and also enjoying the relaxing massages while you are at home. And all the playfulness at home is part of the loving care that they are giving you so it's great that you understand and are being part of the group fun the way everyone wants. You will get the best out the group oiling in this manner. For going out with long hair you should be fine to say no if you don't like the idea. At the same time if you also love the long hair heavily oiled look then there is no reason why you should care about what others in public may think. In the end you should be doing what you like. Maybe you might be very comfortable with going out with a nicely groomed heavily oiled bun. It would look very professional as well. But that's totally up to you and no one should force you in any way. I love it that you were a sport at home and let Malti and Roshni try the double braids and buns on you. I am sure the double braids must have looked really cute....your hair neatly parted and combed into two oily and shiny braids :) The flowers again is totally up to you. Since its at home you can be a sport and let them decorate the way they want. You may even like it, you never know. But only if your comfortable with the idea. Or else you can decorate their braids and buns with flowers and take part in the fun and playfulness in that manner. I am so happy that Shalini and her maid are going to part of your group oiling session. The more the merrier, right. Plus I am happy that Shalini is also wanting to oil her hair on weekdays as well. It's really important for keeping her lovely waist length tresses in the best of health. I don't know much about ghee as a conditioner. I think heavily oiling itself is a great nutritioner and conditioner for hair. I personally don't think you need to do anything else except make sure you keep your hair well oiled as much as possible. ReplyDeleteJust want to let you know that I have oiled my hair today morning and going to Meenakshi house for group oiling. My maid is going to come too. She is almost same age as me and very excited about group oiling. Sne and I were talking today about oiling everyday so we decided to go tp oiking session. I like your idea of french braid and will make sure Prashant and me have same french braid style. My maid knows how to do it and she will even help style Prashant hair. Please put any suggestions about oiling and styling. Shalini
Hi Shalini, glad to know that you are deciding to oil your hair everyday. Your long hair needs the nourishment to remain healthy and lustrous for years together. You will get used to the routine very soon and I am sure you will love it and prefer having your hair heavily oiled to being dry. Please make sure you get a nice massage on your scalp with slow circulation motion with the fingers, but not nails. You need to apply a generous amount of oil for the massage and the person massaging to be effective. Only then the oil can spread into all parts of your scalp and hair and the other person's fingers can work the magic and relax you so much. Make sure the back of hair above your neck gets peoperly oiled and massaged too. After that the entire length of your hair should be oiled all the way to the tips. Every strand should be properly coated with oil. Once your hair is fully oiled from root to tip and you are done with the massage then it's time for combing to get the blood circulation going in your scalp. It's good to comb for about 15 minutes at least. If your hair is heavily and fully covered with oil then the comb will just glide over the hair and the person combing will face no trouble at all with knots in your long hair. That's one of the reasons why properly oiled long hair is so much easier to manage. There are no knots so no breakage of hair in the middle. As a result it grows longer, but also appears very healthy too. Once properly combed then you can get your hair styled into your favourite braid or bun, you can even have a different style for every day of the week. For now you get the French braid done and I will tell all of you about different styles every now and then. Shiny, neatly groomed and sweet smelling oiled hair looks amazing in every style you wear. Make sure you coat your braid or bun with a proper coating of oil once the styling is over. This will give it a shinier look and the fragrance of the oil will be more prominent. If you like you could use a different sweet smelling oil like jasmine or Rosemary for the coating. I also like Ayurvedic neelbringhadi oil for its nutrition benefits and sweet smell. ReplyDeleteWednesday was a nice day of oiling. Malti and Roshni both oiled my hair in the morning heavily as usual. They both took great care in oiling the long strands of hair. I had the extension all this while as both of them refuse to let me take it off. They both tied a single tight braid and decorated it with Bobby pins. Then they oiled each other hair and I helped too and tied a long right braid. All three of us had long braids and they both would run their fingers over my braid. Later Malti said when Shalini and her maid comes we will oil more and oil their hair heavily also. Later when Shalini and her maid came, they saw our long tight braids and said how much oil did we all use. Malti then added that their hair too would be the same after oiling. Shalini and Roshni made both of them sit in front of them and poured oil directly on their hair. Soon both of them got a nice massage of the scalp and more oil was poured to their long tresses. Soon their hair was well oiled and Shalini asked her maid to tie a french braid. The maid while getting her oily hair combed made a nice french braid which was very nice to look at. Then she told me to do same hairstyle and made me sit in front of her maid. She untied my hair and Roshni put more oil and combed it while Malti coated Shalini hair with jasmine oil. After Roshni finished oiling, the maid too over and tied me a nice tight french braid, then Malti coated it with jasmine oil. All were happy with our new style. Then we all untied Malti and Roshni hair and oiled and combed it. Then I told them and to do french braid to them too and she did it and I coated their hair with jasmine oil. Then Malti sat in front of me and put two Bobby pins on front side of my head. Then Roshni said this hairstyle does not need flowers but next day we will tie long braid and put flowers. Everyone agreed and Shalini want to see me in flowers too, so I took your advice and said if it in the house I will do it. Shalini later told me that she saw various oiled braid you mentioned and she is going to show to Malti so they can decide new hairstyle for me. Malti really liked the french braid and made me smell her hair and she smelled mine and Roshni and said to keep it in front to enjoy the smell. So Shalini will come again for heavy oiling and styling. Please advise soon Pooja, I am sure Shalini will write too.

ReplyDeleteGroup oiling was such a nice experience. I don't think I had so much oil applied in my hair. Malti really gives a good massage to the head. My maid Sunita, also loved to her get hair oiled. As she is almost my age, she also loved her hair being pampered so much. Malti and Roshni really know how to oil and style hair. Both of them complement each other. The french braid tied by Sunita was nicely coated with jasmine oil. It smelled so good. All of us had french braids and looked so good. Next time we will have flowers and Prashant too. Malti has good control over Prashant as she oils his hair to her content styles and styles it the way she pleases. Roshni also is very disciplined about hair oiling. Malti massaged my hair just the way you had described. Each strand of my hair was rubbed with oil up to the tips. I showed Sunita the Flickr group of oiled braided hair and I decided to show it to Malti and Roshni so they can decide a new hairstyle for Prashant. What do you think Pooja.? I think I should oil my hair everyday now. You are right group oiling is so much fun. Prashant hair is always decorated with accessories by Malti and Roshni. Shalini and Prashant, that was such a lovely description of your group oiling session. I could just picture it in front of my eyes and smell the sweet smell of jasmine oil on your amazing looking French braids. I specially loved the part where Sunita was getting her hair oiled and combed while braiding Shalini's heavily oiled hair into a tight French braid. That's the best part about the group oiling. You can get yourself pampered while pampering someone else :) Shalini I can't tell you how happy I am to hear that your now going to heavily oil your hair everyday. I can assure you that you will spend a lot of time in front of the mirror admiring your long, neatly groomed tresses in so many different styles. Prashant I can't tell you how lucky you are to have so many women in your life who caring for your hair so much and want to see it grow long and healthy. It's a great mix too. Malti is about discipline of not missing any oiling session and Meenakshi, Shalini and Roshni all playful admirers of your long braids and always enouraging you to try something new. But the best part I like about all your descriptions is that everyone so happy and relaxed. All because of getting lovingly massaged with so much oil. Shalini the open hair with the braid in the centre sounds great. I would decorate the style by tying a nice coloured band at the end of the braid. Nice coloured clips on the sides to keep the hair in place at the top while your oiled shiny tresses gather nicely around the centre braid. You could then decorate the centre braid with jasmine flowers through the centre. It will look really nice. Among other styles now you should try the really well oiled fishtail braid. First the normal one with the hair neatly combed back and then another version with your hair centre parted and the fishtail braid in front of you! It will look fabulous.

ReplyDeleteShalini had a great time oiling with us. Next day she came early with Sunita. Roshni had gone to market to get flowers and Malti oiled my hair heavily as always. Shalini already had shown photos to both of them and convinced them to do braid in middle of open hair and decorate it with flowers.
After my oiling was done, I started combing Malti hair while she oiled Shalini long hair. guess she loves getting her hair oiled by Malti as she keeps pouring more oil and massaging. Sunita came behind me and said she wants to comb my hair and started combing. Malti then told her to tie a bun and coat it with oil. So Sunita did that and then Malti oiled Sunita hair while Shalini sat behind me and loosened my bun and coated more oil. After some time Roshni came and she too got her hair oiled. After oiling was done. Shalini and Sunita made the middlle braid with open hair style to Malti and Roshni. Then a long string of jasmine flowers was wrapped around the braid. Then both of them got the same treatment from Malti and Roshni. All the ladies hair was nicely decorated now that attention was towards me. Roshni sat behind me and combed my hair and oiled it more. She did the same hairstyle and made everybody coat my braid with oil. Then Shalini wrapped flowers around my braid while Malti put Bobby pins in my hair. All of us had flowers in our hair. Afterwards we all sat together and Shalini showed pictures and discussed our next hairstyle.

Wow! Really enjoyed reading this Prashant. All of you are having such a great time and getting the true group oiling experience by combing and oiling each other's hair simultaneously. Because everyone is doing oiling, combing and styling simultaneously...each one doing different activities at a time, you get less tired also and everyone's ends up with getting much more oil in their hair :) I am sure that your bun must have looked awesome with so much coating of oil. Your hair all neatly combed back and then the length made into a big oily shiny bun. Did you look at yourself in the mirror and liked the look? I think being a guy with nice and healthy long hair, an oily shiny bun will look really professional and so will the nice tight French braid you did yesterday. We were both sitting together and getting our hair oiled together side by side. Roshni was oiling my hair and Malti Prashant. After oiling both of them took took a side of our hair and braided our hair together. So Prashant and me had one singlebraid together. Both our hair were in in braid. And then they both coated it with more oil. Everybody was smiling and then let us be tied together, and later untied our hair and we all put jasmine flowers. Any thoughts Pooja? I showed Malti a lot of photos from Flickr and told her that we can do a nice fishbraid like you mentioned for Prashant and a!so a tight ponytail with flowers wrapped around it with bobby pins in front. Please let me know what you think.

Hi Shalini. That sounds so unique and amazing. Both of you "braided" togethe in a nice oily braid. The braid must have been so thick and shiny after being coated with more oil. Love the sound of it. I am sure both of you enjoyed that experience. It's always so much fun to bond together while oiling and you both did it quite literally :) Yes you should definitely try the normal fishtail braid next. It will look amazing tightly braided and coated with oil. I like the sound of the tight oily pony also. It will look great. Be sure to oil properly all the way to the bottom so that the pony looks thick and nice with the heavily oiled hair stuck together. I don't thick you need flowers to decorate the pony. It will look stylish and professional as is. Use a nice big coloured scrunchie to put together the hair in a pony or you can also use a thick coloured buckle. You can wear this style with western clothing also. Will look great with jeans and tee shirt :). Let me know how it goes - Pooja

ReplyDeleteToday we did the ponytail style as Malti wanted the hair to be open and not tied. When I reached with Sunita, Prashant was already getting his hair oiled by Malti and Roshni. Both their long hair was open and heavily oiled. Sunita and me sat behind them and started combing their hair. After they heavily oiled and combed Prashant hair Malti combed it very tight and put a colorful band on top and at the end of the the hair. Then we were made to sit in front and got our hair oiled heavily.
Today coconut oil was mixed with castor oil so hair felt sticky too. Both of us had the same style as Prashant. Then Malti took Bobby pins and put it in front of head for all is us. Malti and Roshni like to decorate Prashant hair a lot. What do you say Pooja? Malti and Roshni had their hair open with just Bobby pins in front. They made us bring our ponytail in front and run our hands over ponytail. Later Malti took me aside and told me that next week is Prashant birthday and Meenakshi will be back by Monday. What do you think would be a great hairstyle and decoration for Prashant. Please do let me know as Malti has asked me to think of a nice hairstyle. Hi Shalini, love your oily ponytails with coloured bands. I am sure the band at the top must be thick and the one at the bottom must be thin. It must have looked so nice with pins holding the hair in front and your length heavily oiled and combed back into very neat shiny ponytails. You could try putting more thin coloured bands on the length at regular intervals. Would look super neat and cool. Next time :) Prashant's birthday wow....you got to do something super special then. It's great that Meenakshi is back too. She's missed out on so much fun and relaxation. This double braided style is very unique. It would look good great on Prashant's hair once it's heavily oiled. She said she wants me to keep wearing it and not take it off. She said as I will be with them, I should not be worried. I told her to tie me a oily bun as you had advised before. Please advise Pooja, I see Shalini is keeping you updated. She now likes getting her hair oiled heavily everyday. Roshni also while oiling told me that she is going to miss the oiling session once she moves back, I told her she is always welcome to come for oiling sessions. She oiled my hair more heavily after hearing it and tied a nice right braid. I really like your suggestion of a midnight oiling party.

As I mentioned earlier, if you are loving the long hair and heavily oiled look, you shouldn't worry about what anyone else says. If you love it then go for it and keep the extension on when you go out as well. The oily shiny bun will look great I think. Very neat and professional. I stayed home today with Sunita and practised the double braided hairstyle after oiling. It really looks good, but we were wondering how to decorate it. Do we use flowers or colored buckles. If flowers what can we use besides jasmine. Please do give suggestions. I cant wait to show it to Malti and Roshni, the style. Hi Shalini, great that you practiced the double braid. I thought it's a really unique style. I think it would be best decorated with nice braid accessories instead of flowers. You can decorate the front one and leave the back one as is. From the styles you sent. I love the open hair one with the centre clip. That would look amazing. Once you finish oiling and nicely comb back the top part you clip it neatly and then leave the rest of the oiled tresses shining and open. That would look really nice. For mixing oils, you can put s few drops of rosemary oil in the coconut base. Very aromatic smell and it's a nice warm oil for winter. Don't put more than a few drops. I like Dabur Amla oil as well but you should use that plain without mixing. Have fun! Pooja

ReplyDeleteToday I got to wash my hair, and as usual Malti didn't let it be dry for more than fifteen minutes. As I supposed to go out with them Malti oiled the hair heavily and made a big bun with a stick. She put black plain Bobby pins in front and side my head. Roshni was oiling Malti hair and tied a loose oiled braid with a colored bowtie clip in centre of head. Then she oiled Roshni hair and did the same hairstyle. While I was out with them I was a bit nervous but nobody noticed as I was in between both of them. Then Malti said no need to take off extension anymore as I should feel comfortable now. I showed Malti and Roshni the ponytail hairstyle with multiple hairband and they said we will do it in the afternoon after we get back. Later in the afternoon Malti took the stick off and let the hair fall. After combing tightly, Roshni add more oiled and massaged my hair. Later they tied my hair tightly from top of my head like ponytail and rubber bands and tied it to hair leaving some space like picture. Then they showed it to me in the mirror and it was almost the same. Today is Roshni last day staying, do you have any ideas or suggestions. I liked the open hair photo that Shalini posted. It looks better non oiled. Do you think I should have that hairstyle without oiling ?. Please advise Pooja.

ReplyDeleteToday mother and Meenakshi are back. I went with Malti to station, hair in a oily bun. I am getting more comfortable now. Both of them were happy to see me with the extension on. Later my mother told Malti thanks that she made me keep my extension on all week and not only weekends. Shalini came later and updated Meenakshi with everything while she was getting her hair oiled heavily. Meenakshi was so happy to get her hair oiled by Malti. I am sure she will write soon. I told Shalini about the open hair picture. She also said it looks good without oil but Malti might want to put oil. Mother combed my long hair and applied more oil and tied a long tight braid, Maltu put Bobby pins in back, side and front of head. She made me comb her hair after. I will let you know about oiling party soon.

I just love it so much when Sapna oils my hair every morning and combs and styles it as per the choice style of the day. I love it even more the days I have washed my hair as then the oiling is even more heavy to make sure the hair is properly coated with oil again. That feeling of warm oil being poured and seeping through your hair onto your scalp is super relaxing and then your long hair being lovingly coated in layers of oil. It's the best feeling. I am getting it done now and don't feel like leaving for work, but have to :(

Malti oil massage does the same thing to me, and I feel more relaxed after getting a massage from her after a week. Malti suggested a present for Prashant, but will let you know once we gift it to him as he will know if it write it down. Hope you understand. It's going to be a big surprise for him. Meenakshi I am sure Prashant must have looked nice with the big comb in his neatly made oiled bun. I absolutely loved the new style you sent from Flickr. It looks somewhat complicated to style, but I am sure that with properly oiled hair it will be easier to braid this complex style than with dry hair. I am gonna ask Sapna to make it for me too and I am going to try it out on her as well. It's a challenge for all of us to get right :) Shalini I can just imagine how cute you and Sunita must have looked with middle parted heavily oiled hair in double braids. Shalini for open hair which is oiled, I wouldn't recommend any more decoration than perhaps a fancy hair clip to hold the hair in place. Let the shiny look of your open hair and really nice fragrance from it be enough to capture everyone's attention. Sometimes just leaving it simple brings out the best in looks. If your keen on a unique style with semi open and nicely oiled hair I think this one is a superb one to try

I love this heavily oiled braided bun video as well. You must try it out in your party as well. It's such a traditional Indian style for our heavily oiled hair. Goes perfectly with Indian attire for going out and to functions. Very elegant and you can oil more heavily than normal to get a superbly professional looking bun. What do you think Pooja ? As it is all these girls are planning a oiling party and I have to follow their rules on my birthday. Mother said I have to listen to listen and enjoy. Great Prashant. It's always good to be confident and comfortable with what you like and prefer. I am so sure the oiled bun must be looking really superb. If you loved the braid with multiple rubber bands with your braid in front of you then by all means go out with it and flaunt it. You will look really cool with a neatly oiled braid and the colored bands showing with the braid in front of you. Infact it will be amazing to swing it back as well after a while. Will definitely make heads turn. That's the beauty of a neatly oiled braid. You can have it front of you and enjoy the smell and feel of it while you free time or are idling away in your thoughts and then when your busy with work or something, you can swing the braid behind you and flaunt it while you do your stuff. I love playing with my braid and enjoy the feel and fragrance from the oil when I have any idle time at work between tasks.

ReplyDeleteMalti keeps telling me the same thing about playing with hair., she makes sure braid is in front and keep stroking it. There are times she will sit next to me and just coat my braid with oil in regular intervals. Today my mother asked me to accompany Malti to the market and Malti tied a nice oiled long braid. At market Malti met some friends and they started talking. Her friends also had nice big oily buns and when they saw my braid, they were like so happy and each of them took my braid in their hands and played with it. Once we reached home Malti while rubbing more oil told me that her friends want us to join them for oiling session. I am not sure. What do you advise Pooja. ? Meennakshi and Shalini now just love the Flickr site and youtube oiling and styling videos. Malti also has shown interest on the Flickr site and Meenakshi showed her hairplay videos, so everybody want s to try something different. Please advise Pooja.

Hi Prashant. Glad you stepped out confidently with a long oiled braid. I am sure it must have looked great. As I told you, it also attracted attention. Like and neatly groomed hair always looks so gorgeous that it is bound to attract attention. I love playing with my braids and stroking them. ReplyDeleteShalini and me got everything needed for the party ( gifts included). We even got rosemary ljl like you suggested. Today I am at Shalini place and Sunita did oiling to both of us. We tried the hairstyle today that you liked and was going to try it too with Sapna. As Sunita is around our age she picks up new hairstyles very fast. She did a good job with it. It was nice to have open hair for a change. I even asked Sunita to come for oiling party, she happily agreed and said would love to oil Prashant hair. We all sat together and saw the Flickr site to find some more styles. We never knew there were so many oiling clips and hairplay clips on youtube. Shalini after starting to oil everyday is now so interested in doing new hairstyle. We both then combed and oiled Sunita bair. After oiling we made a nice donut bun for Sunita and coated it with jasmine oil. Since she has hair longer than waist length, it looks so nice on her. If we had a big flower, it would have looked real nice on top of the ear, on the side. What do you think Pooja. So many of you so experiment and try all the styles on each other. You can top up with a nice oiling and combing session between new styles. And dress up as well to look gorgeous and feel great with your lovely tresses oiled and pampered all the time. I hate oiling also....She slapped me because I didn't want to get my hair oiled ....we were going out and before that she wanted to oil my hair heavily tie two plaits and then take me to the mall..It's vacation time and hence I didn't want to get my hair oiled...but my mother asked my maid to hold me and then she oiled my hair till dripping....just after oiling my hair she made two plaits and then took me out to the mall...I was feeling so dirty after going in oiled hair to the mall...
Hi Namrata, I am sorry your mom slapped you. She shouldn't have. But she was only trying to do what is best for you dear. Oiling your hair is the best thing for your hair and I think if you allow your mom or maid to lovingly massage oil into your hair without force then you will truly enjoy the experience. Once you get your hair oiled well, then it can be neatly groomed into any style because oiled hair is so manageable. You can pick the style of your choice if you don't like twin braids. But please don't think you will look dirty in heavily oiled hair. In fact you look really lovely with your hair so neatly combed into a braid or pony with rubber bands or any cool hairstyle of your choice. Trust me once you put aside such thoughts, you will be loving your hair oiled all the time and flaunting new styles with your hair so manageable whether you go to the mall or anywhere else too. Have fun and all the best for your nest oiling session. Accept it as you will see the benefits on your hair very soon and once you accept you will also enjoy it to the fullest. - Pooja

I liked it when Malti friends complimented my braid and now I keep it in front and stroke it as Malti advised me too. Today morning I finally got my wish true :). I got to wash my hair and Meenakshi wanted me to have the open hairstyle, so I told Malti to have dry hair. She suggested since its my birthday I could have dry hair and she will only oil head lightly and leave rest of hair dry. After she oiled lightly Meenakshi and Malti made my hair look almost like!e the hairstyle. I hope you remember the hairstyle. They both ran their fingers in opposite directions to get the maximum style.

We yet have to give him his gift and only do when we start oiling. Malti and mother suggested we all get our hair oiled early and everybody have different hairstyle so the birthday boy gets the most oiling and attention:). Thanks for the update my twin Apsaras with such fabulously thick and heavily oiled braids worn in front just the picture you sent. I bet you braids must be looking even more gorgeous than the woman in the picture. Those are all great styles to start with, but please try more new styles with oiling and combing sessions in between for everyone. One person pampering the other and a third person styling to get the full excitement of group oiling. I am sure all of you are going to pamper Prashant so much with warm oil seeping into his dry hair and then lovingly massaged, combed and braided by all of you. ReplyDeleteIt was a amazing birthday party. Everybody had oiled their hair heavily and decorated hair with different hairstyles. I had my extension on and styled dry hair looked good. Malti commented that my hair must be thirsty for coconut oil after whole day of no oiling and she will take care of it very soon. Later mother told me to take extension off and wash my hair as she wants my hair all dry before oiling.
I washed my hair and put nice clothes on and went to the living room. Everybody was all dressed up in new clothes with hair all oiled and styled. In the middle was a stool with three bowls next to it All three had oil in them, later came to know coconut, castor and jasmine. Next to it were 2 large combs and a bottle of coconut oil which Roshni had gifted to me. Malti told me to sit on the stool. My mother sat in front of me and took some coconut oil and rubbed it on my face. Later she massaged both my hand too. Malti stood behind me and started combing my hair. Roshni joined her and both made sure hair was all untangled and dry. Afterwards Meenakshi told me my gift is a new extension with hair upto the knees. Roshni commented maybe one bottle would be enough to oil my hair. Roshni said she get to oil my hair even more and make huge oil buns. Malti and Meenakshi put the hair extension on and when I stood up hair was almost upto my ankles. Then Malti made me sit and combed my hair more. Then she took bowl of coconut oil and poured it right in the middle. The oil was warm and spread all over the scalp. Then Malti started her amazing massage. While being massaged second gift was given. A box of different accessories and colorful hairbands. Meenakshi said it time for me to have my clips and pins. I even got colorful bobby pins and even long black ones. Roshni made four parting of my hair. Roshni,Malti and Sunita took care of three and Meenakshi and Shalini shared one. All of them were oiling and combing the four partings with good quantity of oil mixed with castor oil. After 45/mins Malti and Sunita made a very nice double braided style. Then the top braid was style with flowers and stars. It was a string of flowers and stars not real flowers. Malti then took some Bobby pins and put them in front to keep hair tight. Later mother said my final gift is my own hair ornament. She gave me a box of round gold ornament which she and Malti put it on the side of the head. Then they took me to the mirror and showed me my style. The braid was so long ankle length. Meenakshi took some jasmine oil and coated the lower braid with it and wrapped it around my neck. Then everybody hugged me one by one. Then we danced and pulled each braids. Roshni had two buns with stick and I pulled one of them. So one side hair was open and other side was in a bun. Super Prashant. You all had such an amazing time. Imagine getting pampered and oiled by 4 ladies together! I am sure you must have had such a relaxing time while getting oiled like this. You must have looked really elegant with the heavily oiled braid....a full bottle of oil in your hair....wow that must be something. I loved all your presents. Yes it's about time you had your own pins, clips and colored hair bands. You will need them!!! Mothers ornament must have looked so nice in your double decorated braids. As for the extension, must have been such a unique experience to have ankle length hair. However, I feel on a regular basis it would be better to stick to your normal waist length hair. I feel it's a lot more manageable and the best length in terms of looks. Plus the braid is of perfect length to play around with stroke and twirl your fingers around the oiled ends. Very long hair I feel is difficult to manage and gets entangled. Plus it makes your head too heavy with that much hair full of oil on a regular basis. Plus waist length hair looks super when kept oiled and open as well for the wavy look. But that's just my opinion. If you liked your longer hair then by all means you can keep it that way :) Pooja

I am glad you liked the gifts. The extension was Malti idea. We all danced like you suggested and played with our long braids. Today we decided to make the same hairstyle for Prashant and see how it look with the new extension. We also got flowers and decorate the hairstyle with it. Prashant did forget to mention that he also got as a gift a box of bangles and clip on earrings. It was Shalini and my idea. Later when oiling was done we did put the bangles on each of his hand. Shalini also got a packet of nice decorative bindis for him. What do you think Pooja ?. I am so happy that Shalini has been oiling her hair everyday now so we can do different hairstyle. Hello everyone, specially Pooja, Prashant, Meenakshi and Shalini, thank you for your contributions to the blog. Even though I was not replying but I was following the posts continuously. In fact, the kids are on holidays and at home, so I am quite busy with them. I have read your posts so eagerly and happily and I have even seen the flickr photos that you posted. I wanted to ask you guys something because this has been requested by many members. What do you think about posting photos of your hair oiling sessions and hair styling? You are all so interested in hair oiling and do it nearly everyday, hence it would be great if you guys could also share your photos with us. It is just an idea that cropped up due to many requests of other members. I am sure they will all be happy to be seeing photos of your oiling. Do think about it and let us know.

As for me, I make sure that oiling is being done very heavily whenever the kids are at home. If we need to go out, it will still be with heavily oiled hair, but not to the extent where their faces, neck or clothes look oily. But when they are at home like today, then it will surely be till fully dripping.

My mother oils my hair really heavily ofcourse not to that when the clothes get dirty because of oil....but surely till the extent that my hair is very oily....I don't like oiling my hair I feel giddy when my hair is oiled.... But my mother tells that's just because I don't want to get my hair oiled and that's my perception... But I really feel dizzy.... I hate oil....I hate coconut oil also...

ReplyDeleteI want to share a nice oiling experience with all of you. It happened over the weekend. Next to to my flat lives a aunty who is my neighbor. On Saturday afternoon I went over to her place as I had to ask her something. When I rang her bell, her maid opened the door and aunty was sitting in the living room with her hair all open and it was nicely oiled. The maid then went and sat behind her on a high stool and started oiling and combing aunty hair. She was using coconut oil as the room smelled of coconut. While I was talking to aunty, I was scratching my hair. Aunty asked me why so much scratching and I said that sometimes I get dandruff and I use shampoo to get rid of it. She said how come I don't oil my hair. I said I don't ever oil my hair and use shampoo and gel for my hair. She said young people nowadays don't take care of their hair. She said I should oil my hair daily to get rid of dandruff and make hair nice and strong. The maid was nicely oiling aunty hair and she tied a nice long braid. The maid too had oiled hair and was tied in a big heavy bun. As I was out to leave aunty told me to get my hair oiled, at first I refused. Then she insisted and took my hand and made me sit in front of maid and told maid to oily my hair heavily. The maid first took a large comb and combed my hair all the way back. Aunty had got up to warm some oil and bought it to maid. The maid then took oil and poured it right on top of my head, and then nicely massaged it in circular motion. She massaged my scalp and told aunty I have a lot of dandruff. She poured more oil and ran her fingers through my hair. She took strands of hair and massaged oil. After some time and combed my hair all the way to the back and coated it with more oil. Aunty then said how nice my hair looks oiled. She said to come again on Sunday to get my hair oiled. I hope you all enjoyed my hair oiling experience. Please do advise so hopefully I can post more. I really liked the way the maid oiled my hair.

ReplyDeleteA Happy New Year to you and all. I have been away for work so not able to post. I didn't oil my hair as long I was away for work. So my hair got like dry and rough. When I got back home the maid was not happy with the way my hair looked and no oiling was done. I got a lecture from her about oiling and started my new year day with oiling. She told me oiling to done for three days without washing. She even had to cut my hair as it had split ends and was uneven. She wants my hair to e great again by Pongal. I have two weeks so I'm planning to work from home and have heavy oiling done. P!ease do advise Namratha and also suggest a nice gift for maid during Pongal.

I was planning to cut it by my mother advised not too, s she want me to grow it more long and then maintain it. Namratha, p!ease advise as I think too long hair is not suitable, my mother likes it as she has long hair and can oil my hair more heavily. Even the maid is happy as she get to put more oil. Right now the maid has gone on leave so my mother is oiling me regularly. I tried to convince my mother to cut my hair but she would not listen. Please do advise Namratha.

Hello to all my dear friends, I wish you first of all a very happy new year 2016. Apologies for not being online too much but very busy with the start of the year. I wanted to share something with you guys.
ReplyDeleteWinter leaves your hair dry and frizzy. You may also be at the danger of getting affected by dandruff and dry scalp. Applying oils and massaging will provide adequate moisture to hair during winter. These are some of the ways to protect your hair during winter. Remedies hair loss during winter is available; all you have to do is follow it sincerely for better results.
Using henna will help to reduce hair fall. Everyone knows that how to use henna paste on hairs, today I will share another method of using henna for hair falls. Take about 100 gms of cleanly washed and dried henna leaves and add about 500 ml of mustard oil or coconut oil in a tin can. Boil this mixture until the leaves get totally burnt about 25-30 min and then filter the oil using cotton thin cloth. Then let it Cool down and store this oil in an airtight container and use it to massage your scalp and hairs on a regular basis. Apply this oil heavily and massage for 15 min then leave it overnight and wash in the morning using mild shampoo. This oil is very helpful to keep your scalp and hairs moisturized.
Curd and lemont combination acts as a natural conditioner during the winter season and helps you to reduce hair fall. It cures dryness of the scalp and reduces dandruff. Squeeze a few drops of lemon in curd and apply on your hair as a mask. Let it dry and then rinse it with water.
Using garlic will help to reduce hair fall. Just crush properly a few cloves of garlic without skin, add coconut oil and then boil for about 20-25 min. Then leave this oil to cool down. Once this mix cools down to feel warm when touched, then you can use this warm oil to massage your scalp and hairs. Apply this oil heavily onto the scalp and hairs and gently massage for few min then cover your hairs using shower cap. Leave for 30-35 min then wash it using mild shampoo.
Fenugreek seeds are also beneficial to the hair. Apart from soaking the seeds in oil and applying this mixture,here is another way of making use of these seeds. You can soak about 2 cups of fenugreek seeds in warm water and keep it overnight then in morning take the seeds in a blender and add curds and few drops of lemon juice then blend it into smooth paste like hair pack. Then apply this natural hair mask into scalp and hairs, you can add little more curds to from a smooth paste. Once you apply it on scalp and hairs cover your hairs using shower cap then leave for 45 min then rinse it with lukewarm water followed with mild shampoo.
I hope these tips are useful. So please try them and share your results with us all.

I have been making sure to oil properly twice a day during these winter months. By the time the day gets over my hair is just thirsting for more oil :) I enjoy my massage from Sapna. Thanks for all the tips, specially the henna one. I didn't know it could be used to treat hair fall too. I definitely want to try it but I have always been a bit scared of using henna. I don't want my hair to get a reddish tinge as I am very happy with my natural black colour. If I use the henna in this manner do you think the colour won't come on if at all? I don't mind a dark brown tinge to my hair colour. Maybe that would make my hair look even nicer, but I don't want it to be reddish. Let me know what you think. Also I love to oil my hair heavily in the mornings as I am more fresh at that time before going to work. Do you think I can leave the henna oil in my hair till the next day or two and then wash as part on my normal routine? If not then I will have to try out the heavy oiling on Saturday night only when I am completely relaxed and don't have to wake up early the next day. - Pooja

First, my friends used to make fun of me but once i went to school after washing my hair without oil. They all were amazed to see my hair so beautiful long and thick. Since then my friends have also started oiling their hair before they come to school. Many times before going to school they come over to my house get their hair oiled from my grandmother and then we all go to school in oiled hair...!

Hey, yes even though being in US hair oiling is our daily routine over here. :) I never wanted to leave this habit of hair oiling. I was staying in Chandigarh for a few years before shifting to New Jersey.. In Chandigarh hair oiling used to be done sitting u der a tree. We girls used to sit and our grandmothers uses to oil our hair.. But here ofcourse we can't do that but we can surely keep our hair oiled. So yes we do exactly the same thing.

Once again, I was considering whether to continue this blog or to stop it. Honestly, I was on the point of stopping it when you and Kahini (from New Jersey) posted. This gave me some courage to continue. So I would request everyone to please continue contributing and make this blog active.
ReplyDeleteAs for henna dear, well I use it and personally, I noticed that when you apply it on heavily oiled hair, it won't stain the hair. But if you apply on dry hair, then it will surely stain. Henna is a very good and natural conditioner, but I don't know how it will react of different types of hair. As for me, I have applied it on heavily oiled hair only and it does not stain or make the hair the reddish. But it does give a brownish shade.
What I would advise you Pooja, is to try it on a strand of hair first. I know that many people may have allergies to henna. So first, try it one on strand of hair only and see the result. If you like it, then go forward and do the 'mud bath' as my kids call it.

Thank you so much for your reply Namrata. I always oil my hair heavily. I preferred my hair oiled anyway to having dry hair and never minded going to work or going out with oiled hair. Earlier I used to oil my hair around 3 times a week, but thanks to your blog and sharing postings with everyone here who loves this tradition of ours, I have been oiling my hair daily without fail and that too heavily and on Sunday till dripping. I am loving the practice and feel so relaxed that my day goes good when I get my massage in the morning and go to work with my hair properly oiled and neatly groomed. It looks so nice and professional and remains in place all the day exactly the way it's styled in the morning. I have got so many compliments from people at work also. Now I can't imagine myself without oiled hair even for a couple of hours. So thanks totally to your blog for that and please don't stop it. I'll try the henna on a few strands like you said and see how my hair reacts. Hopefully it will work out just fine. - Pooja
DeleteDear Kahini, thank you so much for your post. Unfortunately, I notice that even in India, young girls do not follow the tradition of hair oiling. At some time, the best hair in the world was India. I wonder if it is still the case. Things are changing and now long, thick and healthy hair is so rare even in India. In ancient times, all ladies had such thick and nice hair.

Anyway, this was just my opinion. I did not travel much in my life and I am only a housewife, so I may be wrong as well.
What you said in your post is just what I miss so much. Sitting in group, outside under a tree, oiling each other's hair, combing, styling and chit chatting... Some friends of mine told me that this is still the case in some rural parts of India. At least these rural parts have maintained their traditions.

Her maid oils our hair heavily and then we both comb each other hair for a long time. Afterwards we style our hair according to the hair accessories we have. It was nice to read your post. We hope to post more. We too oil our hair everyday and more on the weekends. Prashant is out of town for two weeks and he is enjoying non oiled hair freedom. His hair has grown longer and looks better due to regular oiling. Please recommend any kind of mixture of oil for two weeks of non oiled hair. Shalini say Hi. Please reply soon.

I love how you said we both comb each other's hair for a long time. I love the feel of a comb going through my heavily oiled hair, so I can imagine how both of you are enjoying it too. So what styles did you try? Good to hear about Prashant's hair becoming longer. He won't need extensions now. You should use a mixture of coconut and almost oil for 2 weeks of non-oiled hair. Must have become very dry in these colder months. So heavy oiling should be done to get all the nourishment back. We both had long tight braids nice decorated with flowers and bobby pins on the side on Friday. Yesterday we oiled our hair again and made donut buns, which we coated with scented oil over coconut oil. Today we had a nice head oil bath. I like your idea of coconut oil mixed with almond oil. Do you think sour curd should be applied before washing hair? Prashant hair is long almost shoulder length but we put extension when we decide to to have long braid style. Malti is already waiting to oil his hair very heavily and every few hours. Our mother too is worried. I can already imagine Malti putting the extension and oiling very heavily. Hi Meenakshi and Shalini, wow you seem to have had such a nice weekend. I have not tried doing a donut bun yet myself. Will ask Sapna to do one for me. Both of you must have looked so nice in heavily oiled big buns coated with scented oil. What did you mean by head oil bath? That sounds interesting. Please describe what it's like. I am not too sure about sour curd. I am just happy with applying shikakai shampoo and rinsing my hair with warm water a few times. I don't really worry too much about the oil being out completely. As long as the shampoo is out and two rinses with warm water my hair is clean again. I then towel dry it and let it air dry naturally for 2 or 3 hours at most. By then I am so looking forward to feeling the warm oil seeping into my scalp and the nice massage with lots of oil until every strand of hair from root to tip is heavily coated with oil again. Only after its oiled properly Sapna combs my hair again. Until then while its drying I run my fingers through it to release the big knots but I don't use a comb until my hair is heavily oiled again. Then it's so easy for Sapna to comb. The knots would automatically come out and I just love the feel of the comb gliding through my oil slicked hair. Sapna takes the comb from the top near my forehead and runs it through my scalp and makes the comb teeth touch my neck area over my blanket of oiled hair. That's the best part of my day and I love the feel of it. I also love how I look once my hair is neatly groomed into whatever style Sapna chooses for the day. Nothing like taking a look at yourself in the mirror and wearing the bindi to go with this best traditional Indian look. I don't believe you should force Prashanth if he doesn't want to oil his hair. But what you can do is get your hair oiled always when he's around. If he's missing it and used to really like it before then I am sure he won't be able to resist and will tell all of you to give him the best massage possible. However, if he never enjoyed it then it's fine, it's his choice and you have to respect that as the choice of an adult. - Pooja

ReplyDeleteNice to read your reply. Back home after a nice weekend of heavy oiling. Oil head bath is very common here. It is sesame oil mixed with spices and allied to scalp by massaging. We mix little coconut oil too. Today washed my hair and have a nice loose braid on. Hair feels so silky and light. Later in the evening looking forward to get my hair oiled by Malti after she oil my mother’s hair. I think I will have a long long tail style today as want my hair to be open. Prashant said he is enjoying his days right now as he knows when he gets back, mother will not want him with dry hair and Malti too. He is looking forward to be being oiled as his hair has become a bit dry and rough due to cold months. I told my mother about it and she said not to worry as he will be back by Friday and three days of heavy oiling at regular intervals will make hair better. I told her of your advice coconut oil and almond oil, andshe said very good idea. What do you think Pooja ? Please share your thoughts. Happy oiling :)))

By evening I bet you will be thirsting for oil in your hair though ;) I feel really awkward now without oil in my hair. After couple of hours of drying my hair I am sooooo looking forward to having it nicely coated with loads of oil and combed and groomed into an oily braid or bun. Only once my hair is oiled fully again I feel complete. When you say long long tail I take it your going to have your hair in a nice oily long pony right? It looks cute to have this style at times and if your hair is thick then your oily pony looks fabulous! Great that Prashant is looking forward to oiling. Your mother is right. Just 3 days of heavy oiling over the weekend will fix his hair :)
Hello I'm a school girl and here's my oiling story. Frankly speaking I used to hate oiling my hair before. I used to cry and do all the possible things so that my hair is not oiled. But a few days back, only I was in the house and the maid and my amma ( grandmother) so amma was getting her hair oiled by the maid and they both asked me to sit where oiling was happening. After looking at the way the maid was pampering her. I got soo attracted to it I asked the maid bymyself to oil my hair. Both of them got soo happy. Both of them oiled my hair and made two plaits for me. And I realised that I look really very neat, good and fresh after my hair is oiled. And after that everytime I go to the school I go in oiled hair. After I've started getting my hair oiled my hair has become soooo soft and I feel relaxed. I don't get hyper. And the fragrance of oil is nice. I wonder why I hated hair oiling for soo many years. Now that I've started loving it. I'm always in oiled hair. And I love to have two plaits all the time.....Now since the time I've started getting my hair oiled...since then in our house we have this routine everyday in the evening. Amma oils my mother's hair and my mother oils my hair and then my amma makes one plait for my mother . Then when my mother oils my ammas hair at that time my amma oils my hair again because they say that the old generation has some power in them to calm you down and all. And then when my mother combs and makes one plait for my grandmother at that time my amma makes my hair. It's been almost 3 weeks that we are following this routine in our house. After making two plaits she puts ribbons also to them. Just the way she puts it before I go to school. And while oiling my hair a few days back, my grandmother was saying that when they were small they didn't know the difference between hair without oil and with oil. Everyone used to be in oiled hair. It was like a very normal thing at that time. And when my mother got married and came here that time also she uses to oil my mother's hair and my mother used to oil her hair. She was sooo happy that I've started to love to get my hair oiled. Now she can oil my hair too.

I really feel that it's impossible to stay away from it once you see someone getting pampered with a long hair oiling session in front of you. Your seeing the person so relaxed and enjoying it so much that you just want to try it out. And once you do, you are just addicted to it forever :) I so glad you realised yourself how nice you look with properly oiled and neatly groomed hair in two plaits. We really look our best when our hair is oiled and as you rightly said, it feels so relaxing that it brings about a personality change in us. I love the routine you described and I am sure you all have the best time among yourself chatting and laughing and sharing your days as the oil just seeps in and coats every strand of your hair with shine and fragrance. The feeling is just irresistible!!! Your grandmother is absolutely right. During hers and till your mothers young days, oiling our hair daily was just part of the normal Indian tradition and everyone just used to do it as a habit. Our elders just handed it down to use for the obvious benefits of having long and luxuriant hair which is so neatly groomed and keeps us calm so we can go about our daily life with a smile no matter how hard the work day is for us. In recent times this superb Indian tradition has given way to lots of outside influence of shorter hair which is chemically treated, dry and artificially colored. But it has it's very damaging effect over time and therefore our younger generation is losing out on the crowning glory of long luxuriant tresses which always adorned our Indian women. Thankfully now people like you and Kahini are reviving this age old tradition of ours and realising and loving it's benefits. I am sooooo proud of you. ReplyDeleteYes I did mean ponytail. I agree that I too look forward to heavy oiling and massage. I like to play with my long silky hair and comb it a lot. And then later wait for the warm oil being poured straight on the head. Then the tapping of the oil and hearing the chap chap sound. I am glad you are going to try head oil bath. It is so relaxing. I really enjoy oiling in group as it is so much fun. Now with Shalini also oiling regularly we can have more people in the group. Friday we have planned a special oiling session as Prashant will be back. We are going to use your mixture. Please advise on any hairstyle for him and accessories. I am wondering whether I should put extension on him Friday or Saturday. Please do advise as it is going to be three days of heavy heavy oiling.

I like the sound of that.....3 days of heavy heavy oiling :)) Sounds like bliss. If Prashant likes it and is willing then you can have the extension on all 3 days and all 3 of you can experiment with different hair styles and accessories. Group oiling sessions are so much fun as you can massage, comb and style hair all at the same time....but across different people. Everyone has a relaxing time while getting pampered by each other. No Rahul. I have not tried using Henna yet. I am still a bit scared. Don't know if I will have the guts to try it out. I love my dark colored hair. And thank god and oiling I don't have any greys yet. I am just happy getting my heavy oil massage daily.
ReplyDeleteRight now I came from work and it took so long, I just told my maid I am not hungry, the only thing I want is a really really good oil massage. She told me she will give me a very heavy oil massage. I changed into tracks and a tee shirt and told her just go for it. So here I am with a bowlful of oil in my hair and just loving it!!! My forehead and both sides of my neck are oiled and massaged too. It was sooooo relaxing. This is seriously the best thing in the world. Right now I don't know how I am going to go to work tomorrow with so much oil in my hair......but my maid says she' pretty sure that by morning I am going to want even more oil :))) I hope everyone else's oiling weekend is super too - Pooja

ReplyDeleteSo on Friday before Prashant came, all three of us got our hair heavily oiled and made. nice oily buns for each other. My mother and me were in the living room, while Malti prepared a mixture of coconut and almond oil:)). When Prashant came, mother made him sit in front of her o chk his hair. My mother said his hair is very dry and could da druff if not careful. She combed his dry hair first. Afterwards Malti came with a big bowl of warm oil and sat behind him. My mother held his hair while Malti poured oil all over. Then she started massaging, which he seemed to be enjoying. Afterwards she took a large comb and made a middle parting all the way back to the head. Then mother sat one side and Malti other. Both oiled equal part of hair together. My mother said no washing of hair till Tuesday as only oiling is to be done. After a lot of oiling they made a nice out bun. Four bobby pins were used on side and front to keep bair in place.Once bun was done, Malti got some castor oil and coated the bun which made it very shiny. I asked about extension and Malti said we can put it later as more oiling will be done later. In the evening we attached extension and mor oiling was done. Now all of us big oily buns. My mother decided on Saturday we would all have braids decorated with flowers,including Prashant. What do you think Pooja? Will post more later.

Good to hear from you Apsara with long gorgeous oiled tresses. I was just wondering what everyone on the group is doing. I guessed everyone was probably having a nice weekend getting their hair heavily oiled. As predicted by Sapna I not only asked for more oil to be put in my hair this morning before going to work :) I had a super heavy oil massage after coming back from work too. This weekend I had made up my mind to just relax and put as much oil as possible in my hair. So right now I too have my hair up in nice oily shiny bun in my neelbringhadi Ayurvedic oil. I am sure Prashant must have been thirsting for oil. When you say 3 of us I am assuming it's the other Apsara too right? Yes it would be great to have nice heavily oiled French braids decorated with flowers for all 3 of you. Make sure apsaras that you have a nice bindi too. I think our traditional Indian look is complete only with heavily oiled hair and bindi. Enjoy your Saturday and flaunt your oily shiny braids wherever you go. ReplyDeleteThis is my second post in this blog. My first post was in December about an oiling experience. Due to my neighbor aunty I got rid of dandruff through oiling. Afterwards I hardly went for oiling, when ever we would meet, she would invite me for oiling during weekend. I would go some times out of respect as she helped me get rid of dandruff. Her maid would oil my hair very heavily and massage it too. Today while getting my hair oiled she asked me why don't I oil my hair everyday., I told her I leave for work early and since I live alone nobody is there for oiling. She suggested I should have a maid who would cook and help mantain my hair with oiling. Her maid said her elder sister is looking for work and she has great long hair which she oils everyday. I would like to ask you if oiling everyday helps in any way. Right now I get my hair oiled maybe once a month. She said to come again tomorrow to meet her sister and more oiling. Does oiling help hair in anyway or it it just for styling. Please advise Pooja.

It will be great to have someone with you to give you oil massages. It seems you now already have someone. Since the maid is so keen on making sure you have your hair oiled daily, I am sure her sister will do a great job. Without a doubt oiling your hair daily has great benefits, healthy hair, no dandruff, good hair growth, dark hair and if you have long hair them no split ends. Styling oiled hair is so much fun and hair looks amazing when styled with lots of oil. Very easy to manage and shining and fragrant. But styling is the added benefit, the real thing is the health that regular oiling gives to your hair. It's like watering a plant, absolutely a must. - Pooja

Your other Apsara will join us later. :)) I hope you like it. Saturday morning, mother made Prashant comb all our hair. While he combed our hair, Malti oiled his hair heavily. Then mother made him comb Malti hair. All of us were nice oiled and then braids were tied to each other and string of flowers on each braid. Mother coated Prashant hair with castor oil and put Bobby pins. He looked so different with flowers, tight oiled braid and pins in hair. I am so happy to see his hair oiled. Just a difference oil makes to hair from being dry to healthy. I like to keep my braid in front and play with it. Malti and me made Prashant do the same thing. What do you think ? I am sure Prashant enjoyed combing your hair while his hair was being heavily oiled. I bet all of you must have looked amazingly good with heavily oiled tight and neat braids. I can imagine how different Prashant must have looked with oiled braid and flowers. Your absolutely right. What a difference oiling hair makes to dry hair. It just transforms the hair, refreshes the person and looks great too. I too like to keep my braid in front to get the fragrance of the oil and play with my hair. When I reached aunty was a bit disappointed as I had washed my hair. She expected me to have oiled hair, but she said I am not leaving without my hair oiled as on weekend hair should be oiled all day. I never knew hair oiling had so many rules. A bit later the maid came with her sister and she introduced me to her. She too was a bit angry when she saw my dry hair,and said more oiling will be done later. The maid sister hair was very long and thick. She had tied a nice long. Raid which was heavily oiled and shiny. The moment I llooked at her hair I knew she must be oiling everyday and must be strict. Then while talking I noticed she put her braid in front and stroked it gently. I told her my weekly schedule and she said as I start work early and home by early afternoon, it is a good time e for daily oiling. The maid sister said after been out all day hair gets exposed to a lot of things and it is best to keep it oiled later to clean it. I guess she has a lot of knowledge of oiling. I was impressed. Later aunty made me sit in front of maid sister as she oiled my hair. She massaged my hair very nicely and poured lot of oil and made sure my scalp was nicely oiled. This was a unique experience. Afterwards she combed my hair nicely and said now everyday your hair will look like this. While leaving aunty gave me a gift. When I reached home, I opened it and she had given me a nice coloured bowl, a big bottle of coconut oil, and two big combs. I was happy with her gesture but wondering why she gave me 2 combs ? Great to hear Akash that you are now wanting to try out oiling your hair daily. It seems like you new maid gave your a really nice oil massage. Yes it's always good to go everywhere with properly oiled and neatly groomed hair. I believe it does give you a personality enhancement. That's a nice present your aunty gave you as she wants to make sure you keep your hair healthy by oiling daily. I am not sure why she gave you 2 combs. Maybe you should ask her why :) Pooja

DeleteOn Monday when I got back from work, Smitha ( aunty’s maid sister) was already in my place cleaing up. She said she will make tea and do oiling after. We both had our tea and she said to just wear vest as shirt will get oil stains. She got warm coconut oil in the new bowl and bought new comb too. She made me sit on the floor while she sat on raised stool. She poured oil straight on to my hair and I felt so relaxed. Then she slowly massaged my hair and added more oil to scalp. While oiling she told me, her sister had told her of my dandruff problem. She said for dandruff to never happen again I should use shikakai powder and shampoo from now on and also no hair product as it spoil hair. What do you think Pooja ?. She said only coconut oil from now on. While oiling I complemented her hair and told she liked it. After a lot of oiling and massaging she took the new big comb and combed my hair in long stroked. Her combing felt so good. I told her she can have the second comb for herself and use oil too when she wants too. I will meet aunty to ask her why two combs. She did middle parting and combed both sides evenly and pulled my hair back and coated it with more oil. Then she tied a small bun.. After that she took two long black line and put it in front and said it makes hair in place and looks more tight. I must say I am going to enjoy getting my hair oiled everyday as she does such a good job of oiling. Please reply soon Pooja

ReplyDeleteI am happy you liked the page and do your own oil bath massage. I am sure Sapna would give you a nice and relaxing massage. My weekend oiling went so well. The other Apsara :) came today and she also got her hair heavily oiled. Yesterday when we had fllowers in our haor, we also put nice bindis too. For Prashant, mother put a tikka so he would’t be left out. At first he was protesting about flowers in his hair, but mother herself put it on him and he gave in. It was nice to see everybody in the house with flowers and tight oiled braids. Today all of us mostly kept our hair open and did po ytails. After Shalini got her hair oiled I sat behind her to comb it and Prashant sat behind me to comb my oiled nair, the mother sat behind him to comb and coat his hair with more oil, and Malti was combing mother hair. It was such a special moment. All combing and pampering each other hair. Then we would switch position so everybody would get their hair combed. Since hair was open we used nice coloured Bobby pins ont he sides, even Prashant had to put it. Then we would all look in the mirror and style the hair more. Mother said can't wait for Prashant to have longer hair so she decoarte it more with jewelry. Right now hair is heavily oiled and in ponytail. The other Apsara says hi to you. ReplyDeleteJust wanted to share my weekend oiling experience. As usual starting Friday evening to Sunday, it heavily oiling and no washing of hair. By now my hair has become longer than shoulder length. My mother wants my hair to grow longer at least waist length a d even both the maids support her, I try to reason I like to cut it has its more manageable and more in fashion. They say oiled hair is more manageable and fashionable. All of us are heavily oiled and have nice oiled buns. Is there a way to convince them about cutting hair ? Please advise Namratha and Pooja

DeleteCan't advise you about cutting hair or not Raj. That's entirely your call. If you don't want to have long hair being male, then you should cut it. All I can say is whether long or short, regular oiling is great for your hair. I would agree though that oiled hair is definitely a lot more manageable and gives you that neatly groomed amazing look.

ReplyDeleteAfter two weeks of non oiling, four days of oiling was great. When my mother was combing my dry hair, she said do I know the simliar between dry land and dry hair. I said no, she said like rainfall nourishes dry land and makes it green and fertile, heavy oiling makes dry hair strong and alive. Then Malti poured oil on my head and said it rai ing oil on my hair. I am sure you would like the comment. Every couple of hours my hair was getting oiled with coconut oil and coated with castor oil. Today my mother told me that Saturday I will have oil bath and she and Malti will prepare it for me. I got to wash my hair on Tuesday morning and then again my hair was oiled heavily. It was such a nice feeling to have hair soaked in oil and pampered. I was not allowed o take extension off due to long braid styling. I was made to wear a double braid which was tight with Bobby pins and comb everybody hair. Meenakshi always like to style my hair so I let her do it and nothing looks better than heavily oiled styled hair. Please do reply soon Pooja:))

Soo we don't have to go outside house that often.. And we love to oil each other.. Soo we can our hair 4-5 oiled in week..
ReplyDeleteSoo past week we had many functions sooo we were not able to oil hair.. Skk yesterday after coming from function at night we got fresh and was thinking what to do.. Because we mostly oil on Tuesday to Friday.. Soo we just decided to oil on weekends this time.. Soo I asked her if she can do some oiling..and she agreed as always... It was such relaxing after this dry week... She started oiling from middle as always... She poured good amount of oil on middle and tap it little. And started slowly slowly spread all over.. She was rubbing my head with tip of finger .. And that feel really good... Rubbing with finger tip.. After completing on scale area she oiled bottom area too total ... After 30 min.. My every single hair were drenched in oil I can say... After that she jst took little bit more all and press it on head...after whole dry week finally got some nice oiling.. And than she jst combined and I made bun for night.. I was thinking to do same to her bt as we were tired.. I couldn't gave her nice oiling.. And it was late. Soo I just took oil in palm and spread little and just stroke her hair with that oily palm.. Just like coating before sleep.. Now after she wake and get ready I will give her very nice oiling.. Bt till now.. My hair is total drenched in oil.. Idk what should I call this.. Normal oiling or heavy or dripping I have to idea but anyway hope all of you having oily weekend. Keep posting

Please write about how well you oiled her hair too over the weekend. Just a thought, are you not comfortable with going out with your hair oiled or oiling on weekends? I personally think nicely groomed and styled oiled hair looks fabulous. Your braids and buns turn out so neat and whether you wear Indian or western clothes, oiled and styled hair goes with everything. I feel lot of the younger generation have this feeling that's it's uncool to go out with oiled hair. Trust me it's just something you got to get over a couple of times. Once you get comfortable and don't bother what others think, you will love your nicely oiled and styled hair wherever you go. Oiling hair gives so many styling options as well because the style remains in place the whole day. Plus you have that soothing, calm and sweet smelling sensation throughout the day when your hair is properly oiled in the morning.
ReplyDeleteMy oily weekend is going great as usual. Last night I tried the oil bath as recommended by Minakshi using the link she sent. I omitted the garlic but used all the other spices in the recipe. Oh it felt sooooo nice when Sapna poured the warm spiced oil in my hair last night and gave me a one hour long massage. I made a lot of spiced oil so then I gave Sapna a oil bath too. We both made sure we finished the full bowl of oil I had made as per the recipe. We both then combed and played with each other's super oily hair and tied loose braids before going to sleep. The oil bath page said to wash it off after an hour but we felt soooo nice and relaxed, we just wanted to sleep through the night. I washed my hair this morning and I can tell you the spices must have made a difference because I slept like a baby and my hair felt thick and lustrous after washing. I am sure I will do this every weekend now. Today I had a holiday at work so didn't get my hair oiled right away in the morning. But it's afternoon now and as I write, I am getting my hair drenched in lots of coconut oil with Sapna working her magic as her fingers glide through my oily hair. - Pooja

ReplyDeleteAnd yeee I am really not comfortable going out in society with oily hair.. Idk why.. I always avoid..and I am always in extreme Western clothes.. Never in dress or sari unless some really really family function... Soo yee... But I do like oiling alot...and I haven't oiled my roommates hair yet... Been just lazy day.. TV and random stuff.. I will do it tonight. For sure.. My hair got nice tight shiny pony whole day... Soo I will update about her oiliny tomorrow..
Great enjoy the oiling tonight! And hey the tight shiny pony would look great with western clothes. If you love oiling your hair which you seem to, then I would enourage you to get comfortable with going out with oiled hair too. It's just so manageable and so many different styles you can do as well. I wear western clothes very often as well, but I can't imagine going anywhere now without having my hair oiled and styled really well. A well oiled French braid looks really stylish with oiled hair. Try it next time you go out....that or your shiny pony :) - Pooja

ReplyDeleteI jst warmed oil little bit and started oiling her... Started with alot on middle as always. And then kept going part to part of hair.. Used alot of oil as it was dry week.. and then before working on bottom side of hair.. I just combined her with hair brush and it feel soo nice to stroke hair brush from freshly oiled hair.. And after spreading all started oiling bottom also... And took messy burn afterwards... And then she opened my pony and i just told her to just comb it but she wanted to give massage.. How can I say no haha... Soo as my hair were oiled perfectly 1 day ago she took little bit oil on palm and coated it before massaging and then I also jst got messy bun.. Both of us got very oily head now :) feel good after many days...

Hey Shohna, thanks for sharing. Yes I totally agree, if feels so nice to glide a brush of comb through freshly oiled hair. Both for the person getting oiled as well as the person doing the oiling :) And ofcourse how could you say no to a massage. An oil massage is always welcome. I can just imagine how your friend opened your perfectly oiled shiny pony, which must have been in place so well whole day. Then coating your hair with more oil and giving you a nice massage before putting your hair up in a messy bun. Both of you'll must be looking cool in oily messy buns after pampering each other. That's such a nice casual style for home. My hair is in a messy bun a lot of times when I have just got lots of oil put but have some things to do in the house before going out. But before I got out I always get my hair combed really well and then styled into a nice sleek bun or braid which remains perfectly in place. Today I had to wake up early for yoga but now once I finish and have my bath, my well oiled weekend hair will get another generous coating of sweet smelling oil before I get Sapna to make me a nice braid. When she does her oiling magic evey morning, I jays don't feel like leaving for work :) Pooja .....so this week try to get comfy with going out with oiled hair....maybe both you and your friend. Go on errands and nearby places. It's just in the mind. Actually hair looks so nice when properly oiled and styled, the only thing you should be conscious about is how nice your looking, not the other way around :) Once you get over this mindset in a couple of outings, it will become part of your routine and everyone else you normally will except to always see you in oiled hair. That's all! It will just make your life so much simpler to oil whenever you feel like it and not have to plan oiling and washing around outings :)
